How Much to Spend on Google Ads PPC
I have noticed in many instances that whatever I put as my maximum bid, can get charged up to 2x as much so here's the formula I recommend:
- For starters, bid under the Manual CPC approach (see this for details on how)
- Set your bid to under $0.50 for starters
- If you see your bids being charged up to 2x as much and you're NOT ok with that, reduce the max CPC to $0.25

Google is getting greedy, they aren’t going to take my money, it’s a waste to pay twice as much, they need to stop gouging off of people who are on a budget, looks like rip off to me, I would kvetch at them. It’s terrible in what I see in the SERPs. Lots of junky stuff on page 1 , they are so messed up.
But I think you can use more money to gain such that you profit is increased with Google. Or it the other way round

Hi Vitaliy,
I used to do google ads and it worked out way too expensive.
One thing that I learned was to have less Keyword themes (active keywords) if you have too many the cost of your campaign gets out of control and this is done on purpose by google, DONT MAX OUT your keyword options.
So, less keywords is better, I do 6 keywords
Also, DO NOT use google recommendations, this is the worst thing that you can do.
Google just want you to spend MORE money and THATS IT.

Hey Vitaliy,
Do your device bid adjustments affect this? When we try to limit tablet and mobile clicks by reducing the bid, if we increase the bid for desktop at the same time, and then only get desktop clicks, we could "theoretically" exceed our max CPC.

Hi Rex, from my understanding all you're doing is moving your budget to desktop, not going up in CPC.

Thanks, Vitaly. Not 10 minutes ago, I was in Google Ads, lowering my max CPC. Now, I'm going to cut that in half. I appreciate this timely vlog.
