The Importance Of "Time" An Update On My Progress

Time is a resource that every human being on earth gets an equal share. You don't get one more minute in your day than I do and vise versa. I've always said that time is what separates people more than anything. Not money, not opportunity, not luck, but time and how you decide to spend your 24 hours.

It's been two weeks since my last blog and I want to update you all on my progress with affiliate marketing.

At this point I have a website that has a little bit of content. I have customized my site a bit to match what I like. I have a privacy policy, affiliate disclaimer, an about me section and my homepage to showcase my content.

These past two weeks I've spent creating and establishing the above. I have also got myself set up with Amazon's affiliate program and a partnership with Share-A-Sale. I decided to partner with them because amazon doesn't cater to my niche. There are some other important things I've got set up this week as well.

I now have a home office, small and pretty empty, but functional for my needs. I have a whiteboard in my office to write down all my ideas to be seen at a glance as soon as I walk in. Most importantly though, I have set up a report system for my business. No, it's not automated, but it doesn't take long for me to fill out.

May 1st is the date I consider to be the start of my business. Because I technically started before then I already had some expenses and analytics to report. So I created my first month report which includes expense, revenue, content, traffic, sales, partnerships and more.

I believe it to be very important to set goals for yourself and have something tangible to see your progress towards those goals.

In my case, I want to earn my first dollar within 7 months. I want to have 10 more affiliate partners within 7 months. I want to have 56 blog posts within the next 7 months. Having these goals makes it easy to break down to monthly goals and as I move forward and start to gain an understanding of my traffic I can set percentage goals. For example, my click through percentage based on my page views. I can aim to increase that percentage by 1 or 2 percent. That can be accomplished if I am able to convince people to make a purchase more often. If I can set goals to achieve better numbers in key areas, such as the previous, the success will come naturally.

In my opinion it's all about putting your effort where it will be most beneficial. For myself, just starting out my focus has to be on content, content and content. Web development, bench marking goals and affiliate partnerships all need to be prioritized under content in this early stage. Still, "time" must be allocated to each area of importance.

Going back to what I said at the start about how we spend our time, the progress I've made has taken me some serious time. Working 55-60 hours a week and parenting two small children takes most of my time, but finding the time for my business is the only way I will ever succeed. I think what separates me from those who will fail at affiliate marketing is my willingness to use my free time for my business. I've turned off the TV and set aside my hobbies for this. I think that if you want to succeed you need to make some time sacrifices somewhere in your day to day life.

Anyways, sorry for the scrambled post, I'm just getting my thoughts out there. This is where I'm at currently and I can't wait to see what progress I make this month. I will update you all again around the beginning of June. Thanks for reading and thanks for following my success story in the making, peace!

Great attitude Zacchaeus, the effort is well worth the rewards, I am reminded of the saying;

If you want the job done just ask a busy person.

Looks like you are getting well sorted with total vision moving forward.

Best wishes keep going.

Thank you Alex for the response! That's a nice quote and very true.

I appreciate the encouragement and look forward to accomplishing my goals ahead.

Thanks,
-Zacchaeus
