The Day You Want to Just Up and Say Goodbye

I have worked contracts off and on for many years and through these contracts I have noticed that the corporate world has little respect for contractors. Some have and offer great benefits where as others limit the benefits due to the high cost of those benefits.

Many businesses will not pay for a contractor to have time off on their payroll or sick time. There's a saying "you don't work, you don't get paid." They rather you cover for yourself and pay for your own time off regardless of the situation. Very few will offer a more compassionate approach and include paid time off of these types mostly depending on the contract agreement or the type of agency.

My agency unfortunately fails to meet this type of agreement since the client will not agree to such a term of paid time off including holiday pay or sick time. In this case, if I do not work, I will not get paid. It tends to lower moral and productivity as I only have weekends off and on holidays I may work a full 8 hour day depending on the amount of contracted staff willing to work the day with me.
