Functions of Communication
Hallow everyone welcome to my first post.
Ask yourself why do we communicate and what effect does it have? Have you always wonder how the world will be like without communication? Note I am not talki g about the use of verbal only even non verbal too..can you imagine it for a second?
Well communication satisfies a personal or social needs wich then make us to behave ina certain way . Sometimes we are satisfied by the help of others participating, but sometimes we satisfy our needs through self expression such as in art or music.
Purpose of communication
1.Phyisical and physiological needs
We communicate to survive. We are social beings and need to interact with one another just like physical necessities!
2. Sense of self
We communicates in order to gain insight into ourselves. How other people respond to us (our words and behaviours) gives us an idea of a self concept-a job welldone, a speech well received. Understanding others and oneself take place trough interpersonal relationships.
3.Information
We communicate to obtain and to share information. Gather info and learn by ecposure to mass media and through observations. We also communicate to educate!
4.Decision making
We make decisions unconsciously like routine based atsk/actions (brushing teeth).Other decisions are made collaboratively (together).
5. Control others
Signs and signals help to control masses and prevent accidents, news stories and other information can be used to educate people on preventative mearsure and to support them in the use of correct behaviours (traffic lights; articles on different issues such as drug abuse or unwanted pregnancy) e.t.c.
