410 Emails

I have 410 e-mails in my inbox right now. All 410 are from WA and are notifications of blogs, discussions, or trainings that you all have written. All other messages have already been deleted. I feel like I am neglecting my WA family here by not reading or responding, however must beg your forgiveness as I probably won't be able to go through all 410.

Do your e-mails pile up like that? I feel like I have to make a choice, whether to go through each e-mail or spend my time on my site and social networks. It really is a full time job maintaining one site! (I would probably back off from it a little if it were making any money, but alas not a single cent yet.)

Anyway, if I have been quiet on WA lately I am truly sorry. I'm still around.

Totally understand. I think I like the idea of folders that Jonica is doing. It's overwhelming.

It is very overwhelming.

Hello Amanda,

I am sure that most of us share this difficulty, attending to the emails from WA.
I have created folders for everything(with matching rules when they arrive) like
Main folder >> WA
Under WA:
- Follows
- Comments
- Likes
etc...
Under each of those I have a sub folder like P_Follows / P_Comments
When I am finished with a whole bunch on say folder "Follows" I drag them to P_Follows for archiving.

The initial setup (creating folders + mail rules) is a bit of a drag but after it is setup it is a breeze!

I hope that this helps you, if you would like more details of my strategy let me know.

To Our Success Online,
Jonicas

Thank you Jonicas this helps a lot!

I totally understand your feelings here. What I have done after some trial and error is this:

New day starts - Delete all emails except new comments and replies. Go through all replies and make sure everything that I was actively a part of is resolved. Then throughout the day when I am active I will keep up with the emails and address the ones that I feel I can.

I also will keep an eye on the activity thread and leave that on unanswered questions. That way I can make sure people are getting answers when they need them.

Unfortunately when you get a large following of people it is just something that needs to be done.

OK this makes me feel better. I do go through comments and replies, and even new follows, first before I do anything else. It's the rest of the stuff I need to find a good strategy for.

Took me a while to find the right balance. I also had to come to the realization that I could not read every blog and help everyone. Just had to do my part.

That's a tough realization.

OK - and you know what's really funny (dry wit and all)? ... Isn't "410" the error code on some sites when they no longer exist? Too funny..... :-)

Is it 410 or 404? I can't remember. That is funny though!

To BlankenA ... you're right - it is 404! This, too, if funny!! :-)

I think any member of WA can identify with your conundrum. This is why the subject line is so important. If the subject line concerns matter I think I can be of help with or if it suggests I may be interested, I do read the blog. However, subject lines that are not definitive, I merely move to a specified folder I created when I first joined WA. This is a time management decision and there is so much to learn here until some of the emails are sacrificed for the greater good. Hope this helps! ~Cathy

This does help Cathy. It's a great idea I'll have to implement! I get my e-mails on my phone too so it's constantly chiming to let me know I got another one. At first it was fun, but now I think I block it out.

I know, what you mean each day e-mail from WA almost 20 or more
I just to seat like in front of computer answer 2 hours at lease. Happy

That's a good goal to have Happy. Normally I respond to the e-mails first thing in the morning, but with the pain I've been having I have to choose how to spend what little time I can allow in front of the laptop. Hopefully I can go back to doing that soon.

Hi BlankenA
Good Luck with your wedding. You'll miss having those emails in your inbox. I felt a bit overwhelmed when I first started and got a lot, but now for some reason I don't get as many, and I miss them :o)) ((o:

I'll send you mine!!

This is a very common problem here at WA and it is very time consuming.

I just hope that someone is leaving comments. Well, it looks like you are! LOL Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and leave a comment. :o)

You must do as you feel is right. We miss you input, but understand the reason!

Thanks Terea. I miss you all too. Unfortunately with my arthritis acting up I have to spend less time on the laptop. :o(

I actually turned off notifications sent to my email and just go through my notifications when I log on the site. I know I'm new but I feel like it's easier to have it go there then my inbox because.....I'd probably delete them too....

Good idea! I think that might be the way to keep my sanity. LOL

Hi Suejin. That's a really good tip. I'm not getting too many notifications that I can't deal with now, but that will probably change once I get more involved with the program. I'll keep your advice in mind.
