In WA we are taught about what SEO and what keywords are. We go about our business to build our websites. When doing so don't ignore what bad businesses could be doing to you behind your back.

While we do our best to write great content to get ranked high with Google, Bind and Yahoo we can't forget about unethical people who try to ruin our SEO's. The reason they do this is to ruin the competition.

How can we protect ourselves?

To help protect our websites from these unethical businesses there are several things we can do.

Need to monitor your backlinks. You can use MonitorBacklink that you can sign up for a 30 day free trial. After the 30 days there are 3 different tiers you can choose from. They will send you notifications when new links are added to your website.

You can request file a reconsideration request through google. When you request for a link to be removed don't demand it. Ask politely for it to be removed. Mention that you are not accusing the business of unnatural links. You can also mention that Google penalized Sprint for making spam comments.

Keep websites and social media login secure. Hackers can cause major issues to your postings, content, and gain confidential information.

Be sure to use complicated passwords. Don't use admin as a username.

Set up Google alerts. This will prevent the bad SEO's from stealing or wanting to ruin your reputation. Set up the alerts for your name, name of business, and your product name.

Build good quality content to your website to keep up your reputation. High quality sites prevents the impact of bad SEO's. Don't forget to keep an eye on your reviews left on your website. If fraudulent or suspicious report a violation.

Matt Cutts, who is head of webspam at Google, talks about manual action to take when you try to request the bad / spammy links to be removed. One thing you should understand is there is a term called Penguin, which was made up by Google. It is a way they reward high quality sites. It does effect sites that stuffs keywords and partakes in link schemes. Too many and you'll be penalized.

In conclusion:

Be on top of your website

Write quality content

Be polite when requesting a bad link to be removed. Keep log of your contacts with the webmaster, if not action is taken Google will accept your thorough notes to get your ranked again.
