SiteFeedback and Sitecomments - Credit Dashboard

This morning while navigating the WA site I came across the Credit Dashboard. And decided even though I was only on stage 2 of the training, I would start earning some Community Credits for when my turn comes up to have my Website up for review - I would have some credits up my sleeve.

I reviewed three websites on sitefeedback and one comment on sitecomments. I may have been a bit harsh with my comments but felt they were true and the authors are not going to learn anything if you just comment on the nice stuff. But by doing these site feedbacks... I learnt some invaluable lessons.

Layout - the architecture

How important it is to have your layout on your website readable, structured and making sense. It would be easy to just jump into my website and write about my passion, but unless I have it structured so one point leads to another, its just a jumble of words. I need things to flow. I need to make sure to have pages that are relevant to each topic within my niche. These pages can have drop down sub pages but they all need to relate to that pages topic.

Grammar and Spelling

As soon as I saw spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, I started to loose interest in the website. WA has an awesome Grammar and Spelling checker in your SITECONTENT section and if you can't remember where that is go back to Training 1 lesson 7. How difficult is it to run a spell checker through your work. You've spent hours composing it. 3 seconds to run a spell checker over it.

Images

Adding loads of images that are just cut and pasted all over your website that have been dragged in from the internet does not make your website more enjoyable to read. In fact it becomes boring. It is obvious when you have cut and pasted. Give your self some credit. If you are going to write something of interest... supply your own images.

Credibility

Own your site. Be proud of it. Change the admin to your name as Kyall pointed out in the training. Why have "updated by admin" why not "updated by Paula" . You are the author of this work. You are the owner. People are more likely to believe you if they see you are a real person. Which brings me to the ABOUT ME page. Introduce yourself at the beginning of your web page. People like to feel the connection between the author and themselves when looking into a website. I know I do.

So my final piece of advise to newbies building their websites is to have a look at other web sites. Critiquing a site really gets you to understand the dos and donts of a web site, what looks good and what doesnt. And by critquing you are also gaining some community credits.

17th September 2018

I have just learnt something relevant today to this post - If you go onto SiteComments - this (once approved) will be added to the persons website as a website comment. If you go onto SiteFeedback - this becomes a personal communication between you and the web author. It will not appear on that persons website and is a great way to offer feedback so that the author can adjust any issues before it is published to the www.

So with this said and done.... I'm off to add content to my web pages.
