Where is Dolores, Colorado? It is located in the southwest corner of Colorado. It is a small town of about 1,000 people. The elevation is just a few feet shy of 7000 ft. Dolores is located on the bank of the Dolores River. The Dolores River headwaters are high up in the San Juan Mountains.
Even for a small town Dolores boasts 3 Mexican resteraunts, an American style resteraunt and a microbrewery thats serves pizza from a woodfired oven.
Dolores also has a small grocery store, 3 gas stations, a new bakery and 2 thrift stores and a couple botique shops.
In town there are ample greenspace and a newly built playground in Joe Rowell Park.
Another unique feature is the Rio Grande Galloping Goose Museum located on Railroad Ave. (aka Colorado highway 145, Also know as the million dollar highway).
Dolores also has 3 seperate main festivals each year and several smaller events through the year.
Dolores River Festival - First Weekend in June
You can enjoy life folk, bluegrass, punk folk and other mountain music. Plus food, vendors, rafting and activities for the whole family. They offer onsite dry camping for this special event.

Escalante Days - Second weekend in August
There is live music, food, vendors, several races including the Mountain bike race with several lenght and difficulty levels.
Dolores Fall Harvest Fest - Early October
Food, produce and libations. It keeps getting better every year.
A good starting point for trip planning in Dolores is the Dolores Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
The visitor center is conviently located on the corner of Railroad avenue and 2nd street. It is hard to miss. The town is only 21 blocks long by 3.5 blocks (at widest place) wide. It sets in a canyon. Hours vary but check their website for 24/7 access.
Dolores boast 3 small unique hotels intown and 2 RV parks in town and 2 on the outskirts of town. Plus you can also find lodging via Airbnb.
Dolores has plenty of outdoor activities if you want an active vacation. The river offers swimming, rafting and fishing.
On the west end of town is McPhee Reservoir. The second largest body of water in Colorado. It offers camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, motor boating, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Just outside of town is the San Juan National Forest and Miles of mountain biking, hiking, ohv trails. You can hike to peaks that reach up to over 14K feet or sit by a small mountain brook.
If you love down hill alpine skiing Telluride, Purgatory Mountain and Hesperus ski area are just a short drive away.
Moab, Ut and Arches National Park is only an hour and half away. Mesa Verde National Park is only 20 miles away.
