You Want WA or Facebook?

Hi folks this might be my last blog for a while. Those that know me well, I hope, see me as pitching in to help when I can. That is still there for anyone on WA. However after this I might have a very small circle of friends:)

DO we want WA to be about mutual support for our learning path to great business opportunities or do we want it to be a monthly fee for an exclusive Facebook style community?

I want to hear how newcomers are getting on. I want to hear if my friends have problems in the business, I want to engage in the community to benefit both myself and others.

Increasingly I am emailed links to blogs that are about the below and it takes time to get into them to then realise they are:

Day to day accounts of what people have done in their day job

Heads up warnings about pet care 2 months before the event that is concerning the writer.

How bad someone is feeling because of past events in their life ( one had 8 consecutive blogs just about how awful they felt)

Endless self affirmation ' look how awesome we are' blogs that go to show that the writer is actually feeling rather anxious about their situation.

Please note I am talking about people who repeatedly blog about this stuff, everyone including me should be free to throw in the odd one, it's what life is about.

THE REASONS THIS IS DONE:

To rankspank, in other words drop the rank number by playing to one of its weaknesses. The content will be flagged up if the content goes against the rules, but if not will count on your rank score no matter how pointless the content is to other WA members.

To blog vaguely WA content with a nice link to their website that promises to explain more. If you are explaining a point just put it in the blog. The first method is to selfishly increase traffic, the second is to help the community.

To raise their profile as a writer or generally be able to refer to their standing in the community because of the rank they have. To outsiders they would be seen as an expert in online marketing, to those of us who read their material we know them to be just constant bloggers.

I pay for this service AND IT IS THE BEST VALUE BEST OPPORTUNITY I HAVE HAD IN A DECADE. IT HAS THE MOST HELPFUL PEOPLE I HAVE MET IN A WORK SITUATION EVER. That said I still pay for it, I am here to work, I am here to work with you if you want.

Please don't spoil WA.

Hard work, fighting the tendrils of self doubt and, overcoming problems is what WA is about.along with helping others. If you want to increase your online profile with facebook style chatter go on FB and do it.

Those who are 90% about online success and 10% about personal stuff I would love to hear from you. otherwise.please unfollow me.

No offence meant to the many great people who I talk to and the best of luck to those who see it another way.

Cheers

Tim

Hey Tim!
One of my favorite scriptures is about balance! It says, "A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight." ( Proverb 11:1) Very few argue the wisdom found in the book of Proverbs written by Solomon, but for me the significance is his source. Balance is key in every area of life. Debbi shares a beautiful example of the truth of balance with the sharing of her sons and their experiences. I agree with her. But more importantly I agree with the truth of The One who created and designed it all. All was designed through the Heart of His Love. So you cannot remove all heart from anything and have it survive and thrive, and though He created us with heart He also gave us a brain, lol, that He intended us to use. Balance!
I have been blessed with a couple of dear friendships here at WA! One especially dear. But conversations of that nature are carried on through private messaging!
I have spent a bit of time supporting those who have followed me, but I too have learned that there are those whose blogs lack a healthy balance. Let's hope that they will learn!
Stuck with me still following you, lol, Christa :)

And I am very relieved to hear it:) but then you do strike that balance, I have read your contributions. Throughout the blog, as you obviously know from the wisdom of your words, I even put please note I am only on about people who do it constantly, but it was in my opinion getting worse.
In my heart I want newcomers to arrive and see that balance, they will naturally look at the higher ranking people for guidance. I love this place, I want to keep it friendly, helpful, balanced, but most of all productive. As always thanks you. Tim

I am not disagreeing with you! I had hoped in my response to only contribute to what you were saying! And thank you, I try to keep a balance. Christa

I didn't take it you were Christabelle, besides you are so reasonable that if you did my first thought would be I must be wrong then:)

lol

I totally understand how you feel. I have an equation.
If name=xxx then DELETE. (No exceptions)

Thank you MisterWailor, both of us have that compassion, we have briefly discussed a little philosophy.... then it is back to business. That's what I am here for, it is what people seeking a solution sign up for, I hope it stays that way. I'm done with the subject now. Back to work:) you have fruitful day, peace to you mate.

Good on you mate.

Tim, I am very new to WA -- just a day. Your title "You want WA or Facebook?" attracted me to this article. I am 100% with you in your assertions that we pay to be members of the WA social network for a reason. This forum is about sharing our business ideas, strategies, tips and techniques, and successes. We will benefit us and others with an attitude to collaborate and help. That calls for making a conscious effort to leave out the personal stuff that doesn't add value to others.

Hey Coach, Yeah many people have pitched in with good balanced comments....it's great to get on, its great to mix a balance with business but it is a after all about business. Good to meet you and thank you for the comment. Shout any time if I can help. Tim

Every time you try to control something, it will always control you

I have blogged about my personal stuff and it has saved my life because WA has become a life line of friends where I can share my feelings and vulnerability which has helped me through my depression

My only comments is this ;

Let go and live and let live, this is the internet its free for all to say what ever they want, if you do not like something then simply don't read it

I pay for this too, but you will never be able to control others no mater how much you would like to
Human beings are emotional creatures not logic creatures

So how do you calculate your wonderful equation of 90/10 I wonder

I have found in my own experience that every time we try and create rules for others, the first one to break those rules are usually the ones who try and create them.

The teacher always teaches best, what he/she needs to learn the most

Barry

Yeah Barry it won't wash with me. 30 years in the game, Unfollowed you not because of a lack of experience but because I have too much. As it is your right to write blog after blog about how you feel, it is my right not to get flagged up and invited to read it. My right is all Ii was asking for in the above. It seems really interesting that I am getting some flack for wanting to be in a business community not read about peoples issues. Oh and don't pull that saved your life thing with me either, save that for people with no expertise in the field.

Well why do you not Just un-follow those who you do not want to read then it could not be more simple really could it
You have the right not to follow anybody you have right to un follow anybody so just exercise your right then why the need to rant about it.
We are all free to do as we wish, so just do it then

30 years in what business, if you have 30 years in the internet marketing business I would not expect to see you on a forum like this I thought you would have made all the money you need by now in the internet marketing business, if you have been doing it for 30 years you should be teaching it

Barry

:) Ah trying to get a rise :) Won't work Barry. Not 30 years in this business Barry 30 years in a business that means I can confidently say what I have to you.

As for rant :):) that was not a rant, following your own principles though I could if I want.

I do unfollow, but most people don't put up exclusively or mainly social blogs. I exercised my right to blog Barry, the same one you say you have, so what's the problem? Or is it just I am not backing down to your jibes while wringing my hands in angst?

Barry go and chat to those with NO expertise in the field of your problems. It doesn't work with me. To quote you 'just do it then.'

:) :) now as I am a man not a little boy I won't even go to teacher about that....not guilty Barry run along now, Have a good life Barry:) :)

Sorry for my comments, I get very angry when people are insensitive, however I value the WA community and I shall remove my offensive comments and I wish you all the success in the world
I was badly abused and I am in therapy, often I find the world very difficult to deal with
I decided a long time ago that my anger must not be taken out on people who do not deserve it and you do not deserve my anger its my abusers that do
So once again I apologize for this offensive remark and I am brave enough to admit when I get it wrong

Best of luck to you

Barry

No problem at all Barry. It didn't even raise an eyebrow that's why I left it there. Peace to you and good luck

Tim, first let me say I truly see where you're coming from. I agree with you to an extent and let me tell you why. I have 2 boys. One being the eldest and one being what I call the baby. I also have a girl in between. In any case, my eldest son became an engineer. Well MOST engineers are not very social creatures. He's good at what he does and has done well for himself but struggles when it comes time to working with others and therefore his best ideas don't always get noticed. Yet my youngest son never met a stranger and could sell snow to an Eskimo however, he so social, he doesn't make it financially. This used to frustrate my oldest until we had a long talk and determined that in order to make it in this world, you must show your personal side sometimes, you can't be all business, you must take an interest in others. He now asks the admin folks how their weekend was, for example, instead of plowing in with "can you please do.....". It's worked wonders. Yes, it takes time but that little bit of time has paid off with time savings (and stress) in the long run. To be honest, I had to learn that lesson myself and it was hard at first.

Now, if you're still with me, I do agree that you have people that only care about rank and will blog their every move. I use that delete button a lot and just keep scrolling on FB. I don't have the time nor the energy to put into all that. My point is, there has to be a balance and you choose what your tipping point is. Just my 2 cents worth.

~Debbi

How true Debbi, How true, thank you.

Hey Debbie like one of the other comments very fair. I did say 90% business on here, 10% personal is fine by me. When I am paying for a drink in a bar the ratio is the other way around. In fairness I did say at the end those that see things different I wish them luck and I meant it.
I'm not trying to change WA in itself, each to his own. It was more of a personal plea from me stating how I want my WA to be.
I stand by what I said about your article being the perfect mix of personal humour, interesting content and most importantly it has a point with the community. Thanks for your very fair observations. Tim

I heard an expression once that hit me like a ton of bricks. It was:

"People don't care what you know until they know that you care"

So, let's aim for that 10% and I appreciate your compliment on my articles. I try to go for balance. ;-)

Hi I think I am being misunderstood. I did say that there has to be a balance. As Debbie says there has to be a tipping point that a user decides upon. That's what I was saying is mine.

To clarify about the just delete, or don't read, then it would be cool if like you can post a Success post there should be a Social post button. As for social engagement Boomer and Old Mule amongst many others show that you can get the mix spot on. I think they are great, but they don't do what I was saying doesn't suit me. Hope that clears up what I was getting at. Tim

You get it right:) My niche writing is different from here, my training sessions are full of jokes and anecdotes in context. On here though I am not trying to sell. That is how I see the difference. Cheers

No Tim, I will not unfollow you, I see your point.
This is quiet an expensive facebook platform but sometime you have to mix pleasure with business.
The way I feel is, If it is not interesting to me, then I don't have to read it.
Just my 2 brownies worth
Bruce

I agree it is just that I click through because the title is not always clear and despite how it might be taken I want to help. When you get a lot of emails it is time consuming and I found it frustrating. Hence the blog. I think mixing is absolutely right. Bless you a very balanced reply, I appreciate it. Tim

Well, I am thinking that, by 2 months before a pet event you are talking about my Howl-O-Ween Post. I only have 2 comments here. First, because I follow you doesn't mean we are friends TO START with (you say you won't have many friends left after this post) I am following you for business.

Second: This forum/blog post is also for the Blogs we are developing as a result of WA learning, and developing and making money from my pet blog is a huge part of being in WA. So yes, people WILL promote the blogs they are building for income. Not all of us will be promoting the WA opportunity as an income producer.

You prove the point in what you just said above. Friends, Followers, you are being pedantic and I am not getting into childish squabbling about online definitions. Two months before an event and a segment on looking out for your dog is blog filling, and frankly silly whether you are making money off it or not. That's why I unfollowed you

Great post, Tim. We want quality content in our niche sites, and here at WA. I agree that we should be posting some personal stuff, as that helps to get to know one another and allows us to understand where others are coming from. However, if the majority of shared content is useful, it helps everyone.
