How to get rid of McAfee - REALLY uninstall McAfee

Do you have McAfee on your computer? The answer is probably yes if you are here.

Do you need to uninstall McAfee?

Was there a month long trial of McAfee products when you bought your computer?

Did McAfee sneak back onto your computer with an internet download?

The McAfee Uninstall Problem

If you try and uninstall using Add/Remove programs on a PC or uninstall McAfee from the Applications folder on a Mac, it will not be totally removed.

Adobe products like Flash and Acrobat Reader come with a present from McAfee if you don't uncheck the box. (Yeah. Older websites still use flash. Or if you use WIX for website hosting, then you probably have some flash) So now you need to get rid of it again.

McAfee Products

Here are their top products:

  • McAfee Total Protection
  • McAfee internet security suite
  • McAfee Antivirus Protection with McAfee AntiVirus Plus

McAfee also has a range of other stuff that ends up on your computer.

  • True Key app to store usernames and passwords
  • Anti-SPAM
  • Parental Controls

How to get rid of McAfee products

  1. Go to us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp to download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool
  2. Download the program
  3. Save it or run it. If you saved it, navigate to where you saved it and run it.
  4. It will do it's thing and uninstall McAfee... until the next time

So why am I writing about McAfee products and how to get rid of McAfee? First reason is I found their software on my computer again, with the uninstall button disabled (the above fix got rid of it). Second reason is I'd like some feedback on how I write for an affiliate website.

Here is where you rip my demo apart. I don't have a McAfee affiliate site or an affiliate site in computers. It's a demo:

What am i doing well or not so well? I could really use feedback.

Thanks again, I am off to get rid of mcafee.

Great post and if you research programs that you do not want, you can get a down load for a full uninstall for most of them.

Ty MP

good to know MP,thanks,

What about MalwareBites is it as easy to deal with?

Hi MK,

MalwareBites also has an uninstall tool. Their video says you need to send them an email to get the program.

But I found the actual link. https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_clean

Here's what you do:
1. Download the program to your computer then run it.
2. It will ask if you want the app to access the computer. Say yes.
3. You will get a message telling you it will remove malwarebytes and ask if you want to continue. Say yes again.

At this point it should go through the process of removing MalwareBites.

Good luck!

Thank you Vynette.

Hmm I think I took the wrong approach here. I was hoping for help with blog writing. The mcafee topic was secondary. It's just an example.
Guess I should have put the request for help at the top instead of the bottom.

Thanks for sharing this, while I don't have mcafee I believe a lot of people will find this blog helpful
