Some people just get washed out with the current. That's what happened to me just a little over a year ago when I lost my job.

This may be a bit technical for this forum, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask anyway!

I've already come across a lot of great information on here so far, but with my

Hi voxnihili! Nice to know there are other indie authors on here :) I started to answer your question and it turned out so long I had to make it a WA blog post ;) It's here: Thanks for the inspiration and hope something in all that ramble is helpful!

There are so many ways to attack this....As you say, you are kind of fluid at the moment...

Here is what I would do...

Do some research on the various ways to market your product(s) and then write the advantages/disadvantages for each (and maybe the requirements)...

Then, depending on the method(s) you want to present your work, either as an eBook, in chapters using a membership site, etc. you can select the best way to get it out there...

Social media can certainly help...I follow some writers on Twitter and they put out some really solid and interesting stuff....I enjoy their work...Their are groups on Facebook, likely forums, Reddit, etc. that all could help you promote you and your work...

Best of luck!

Oh yes...Another thing to look at is to offer as MP3 files for download, so people can listen as they want to in any setting, i.e. driving to work...

Cheers!

great post...

i have experience with self publishing. my first website I created here on WA was actually modeled off this. Ebooks written on a niche industry where additional affiliate products could be sold to the audience. Leaves me more rook to write more books (my niche has many micro niches within it), and promote more products.

The site itself generates organic traffic from google, referrals from Facebook and amazon. The book i wrote is sold on Amazon. 45+ pages. Short read. More of a traffic generator than money maker. I sell between 3 - 5 books a week.

Amazon is huge and markets like no other. This is why I choose this platform. Why struggle through trying to build an audience that is already in one location?

In regards to your first book free. This has to be jam packed with value. The idea is to create that thought of "if this is what i get for free imagine what the paid stuff is like!".

On the social media front there is plenty of things you could do to build a targeted audience. Very powerful stuff here. Going back to what I was saying about my lil niche site, I also built a fan page that I would drive people to my website where they could purchase the book directly (allowing me to avoid paying the amazon fees).

Monetizing future releases would be done by mailing your list (something i recommend doing, capture peoples emails through links in your ebook, on your facebook page, on your website), placing your new publications on your various platforms (website, fanpage etc), a little paid advertising to capture new readers.

If you want to know more about how Amazon. kindle publishing let me know via pm. Having traveled this path before I will have some amazing insights for you
