Evidently, Google changes its search algorithm up to 600 hundred times each year!

Some of these updates are minor and some other are major and they do affect search results significantly.

This is a page that SEOmoz keeps which lists all these activities in chronological order. It will help you stay on track of changes. In this list you can find the famous Panda update (and the roll-out of its smaller updates), the Penguin update and much more.

I keep this page in my bookmarks for future reference.
(sadly enough, it will only give you historical data... :-) )
