Pinterest and Reddit

I'd been stuck for a few weeks, kind of floundering around on the web and in books to find out little detail things I wanted to know - obscure things that I know are 'advanced' and ahead of me. I had taken the course lesson about joining social media, and had bailed on making a "Pinterest" account after reactivating my (dead) FB account, and (dead) Twitter account.

You see, I never found much use for FB (got bored reading about what people had for lunch, and the utter lack of responses to 'intelligent' material I would post), and Twitter just never seemed like a thing I was interested in.

Fine - I was advised in the lessons to activate them, and I also made a G+ account - but I was still "meh" about using FB. Then I watched Jay's training on Generating Traffic - and right after that, I watched Kyle's training on Pinterest pinning.

Those trainings encouraged me - so yesterday I made a new baby Pinterest account, and also a Reddit account. I'm thinking those will be my main 'social' outlets. But, it is nice to be back in touch with my friends and family on FB. I'll post some things from time to time, but FB just isn't going to be effective for me, I'm afraid.

Anyway - this is just a status update....hang in there, people! Don't do what I did and get ahead of yourself - stay the course!

Thank you for the post Vicki. I have always felt a bit uncomfortable with the notion of social media, but if it's necessary to generate traffic, I will have to make myself do it.
I have a Google+ account which I think I opened by accident(!) and a LinkedIn account which I have never really done anything with.
I have just read John's post on LinkedIn and it could be good for my niche. His post is here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/tj-books/blog/are-you-linked-in-at-linkedin-why-you-should-be
All the best,
Brandon

I hear you gal, i feel the same way, Pinterest is new to me and i joined and will try that.

You know what guys? Even if we don't post our own stuff on our own FB pages, if we share each other's posts that should generate traffic for us, too. Relying on 'crowd sourcing' - :)

Post your social links Vicki and I'll friend/follow.
(I though I'd left a comment on your propoganda post btw but don't see it, did it go in your spam folder?)

I can relate, Vicki.

A while back, I would peek ahead to the next lesson or lessons (I wouldn't do them, just wanted to look :P) and it threw my concentration and progress off.

Social Media is still kind of strange to me, but the lessons on Pinterest etc really make it simple and I can see how it creates traffic.

Have a great wknd! :)

It IS! Really simple!! Quick and easy, and I LOVE sharing my pictures. And also - when I look at Google Webmaster Tools, I see that MOST of my 'impressions' and 'clicks' come from finds on Google Images....NOT from 'web' surfers. So - I figure I can leverage all those 'Images' impressions to drive people to my site....and if Pinterest works - well, hey - COOL!!

I feel the same, I remember Kathy joined twitter 2 weeks ago I promised i would follow her lead... never did though.
Still we want an online career, guess we should BE online

But the thing is - you can choose which ones you want to use. FB is actually becoming less effective (I hear) - but this, like all technology and sites - is a "living thing" we're dealing with here - the Internet.

I've decided on Pinterest and Reddit. Guess I'll see if they work - or not - for me. I DO like the 'visual' aspect of Pinterest, though - ya know - I'm a very visual person, so I like lots of images and pictures.

You made me curious, I'll look into Pinterest and Reddit,as I have no idea what they are about ...

Pinterest is like a bulletin board. It's filled with images that people "pin" to the boards they make. You can make a bunch of 'boards' of your own; then 'pin' your images from your site with a link. Then when people 'click' on the picture, it will take them to your site.

Reddit calls itself "The Front Page of the Internet" - after you write an article you can submit it to Reddit, and then whoever is interested in that topic (and has subscribed to that 'sub'Reddit - or Category) will see your submission. They can "vote" your site 'up' or 'down' after looking at it. Building 'ups' helps with exposure and sharing.

Thanks for explaining this to me Vicki. It does seem like good tools that we could all use. I will follow up on it.

That's great Vicki, I so understand FB...but sometimes there are some interesting things that pop up...not to mention just having family and friends for support...and the WA members. www.facebook.com/kimberly.h.holmes.1 Here is my FB account, and here is Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/holmes3568/

Thanks, Kim, and thanks for the new comment on my site. Actually, I think I'll leave FB open, but I won't use it to market my site much. Feels like "spamming" my friends and family - I do like Pinterest a lot, though - plan to use that one big-time.

I created a separate page for my site on FB and then I do invites for other new members that I have connected with...that way your page gets some likes....I still put some stuff up on the main thread, more to just give my friends some tips or ideas for Christmas. :))

I tried to do that, also - but it seems they wanted to charge me for a "business" site. So, I bailed. Maybe later I'll understand better.

You just need to add another page to your existing account...you will figure it out. :))

As always Vicki, thanks for the insightful information. I have never been a part of FB or Twitter and I am beginning to realize their importance in moving forward with the program. Guess I will be biting the bullet soon.....just haven't got the courage up yet for that kind of exposure.
Unlike yourself, writing and typing are not at the top of my skill set so I will pay close attention to your posts for advice. Thanks.

Yes I like Pinterest, could spend hours pinning and liking!

It's a funny thing with Facebook, I don't get much trivia on my newsfeed. In the run up to the Scottish referendum there was a pile of interesting stuff to read. On a daily basis I get inspirational stuff,
articles about natural cancer cures, funny uplifitng videos and, my family regularly post updates and photographs so I keep up to date.
I love Facebook!

From a marketing point of view all that is not much use but my friends do share and like. I can see in Google analytics that some visitors have come through Facebook.

Reddit I've given up on trying to register, pain in the wotsits!

lol! Yes, Reddit was a challenge (still is). One thing Jay suggested was to make a new subreddit. Apparently, however, you have to either 'buy' the pro version or have more creds than I do. Oh well - we'll see. Another social outlet I've found results from is Disqus.

I need to check that one out better - it was from one time I posted my site URL in a comment on another site that I read for indie news - and it got a BUNCH of traffic....

Some sites us Disqus as their comment tool - so I can recommend that one. I'll let you know if I find out more about it.

Also, Kathy - are you still using Email Subscribers? I dropped it after it seemed to be glitchy while I had my site in "maintenance mode" - but I'm thinking of reinstalling it.

Not using Email subscribers anymore. I signed up for mad mimi (free) and have a downloadable book for subscribers now.

Hey, can you send me a PM about why you switched, and why you like madmimi better?

Day by day, Vicki, it is a learning experience ;) Never stop learning and one day soon I really think you'll see the fruits of your labor! :)

I'm trying to take this all in, but a bit slow lol

I wish you the best, Vicki :)

Best Regards,

Perry

Yes, I'm one of those people who balks at learning "new technology" - every new phone or new computer or new 'social setup' takes learning. The learning curve is huge. But, I feel like I'm about - oh, I'd say, halfway up the hill...a few more months and secrets and tips to learn. Oh, wait. There's ALWAYS more to learn....

thanks for your comment, Perry!

Thanks for that advice Vicki.
