Google Will Favour Mobile-Focused Web Pages

I've just received an email from the chaps at 'Yoast'. It's about Google switching from a 'desktop-focused' index to a 'mobile-focused' index.

Up until now, Google has favoured 'desktop' versions of websites in its ranking algorithm rather than 'mobile' versions. This move puts mobile-friendly web pages up on top.

This is not surprising because the number of mobile searches has now overtaken those on clunky desktop computers. I always use my smartphone to search the web these days, and so do a countless other people. Web pages can be converted to being 'mobile-friendly' anyway.

In fact, I hardly ever switch on my desktop 'monster' these days. It's good 'gaming' machine, and I like Elite Dangerous. Besides, MicroSoft keeps keeps on updating Windows 10, which is a pain because that usually takes time. Instead, for accessing the net, I use my Google Chromebook. It is so very portable, and its battery life is long before having to recharge.

It now seems that website owners need to be sure that their mobile versions present the correct content at all times.

Tsake a look at this web page at the UK's Guardian newspaper:-

Things are changing fast in the online world ... but don't panic just yet. The switchover is apparently months away. But be prepared.

Thanks for the heads up.

Great update... thanks. Since I'm pretty new at this, is there any formatting or plugin, etc. that is best to do with our website that make it more mobile friendly. Ive noticed that my website is not easily viewed on mobile. Thanks

I wouldn't be too concerned just yet about this announcement. The SEO (search engine optimization) community will be right on to this.

All that I can suggest for the time being to do is to select a mobile-responsive theme for your WordPress site. I believe most of those on WA are mobile friendly. The 2016 basic WordPress theme works fine.

No doubt every theme creator will be urgently working on this algorithm change, so we may as well wait for them to do the necessary work.

I use the paid for Thrive Themes, so I expect the creators to issue updates when the time comes.

Hope this makes you feel a bit better.
