HI

Does anyone know if there is a free plugin for the purpose of Affiliate Disclosure in compliance with the FTC rules?

I came across Insta Legal Pages but this is a paid option -

Your advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I was able to find this not sure exactly where I got it but the FTC requires that affiliate relationships be disclosed:

In 2015, the Federal Trade Commission released their new rules for Disclosure Compliance. These rules are set in place to ensure that readers or viewers of web media (blogs, Youtube videos, etc.) know if the blogger/presenter is sponsored, endorsed, or partnered with a different company. In blog terms, the readers need to know if the blogger is making money by sharing a link or product.

In compliance with the updated FTC guidelines, please assume the following about links and posts contained within this site: Any/all of the links XYZ.com should be considered to be affiliate links of which the site owner receives a small compensation from sales of certain items offered for sale.

What are affiliate links?

When purchases are made from an external affiliate company websites: When a reader clicks on an affiliate link located on XYZ.com to purchase an item, the reader buys the item from the seller directly (not from XYZ.com ). Amazon and/or other companies pay XYZ.com a small commission or other compensation for promoting their website or products through their affiliate program.

Prices are exactly the same for you if your purchase is through an affiliate link or a non-affiliate link. You will not pay more by clicking through to the link.

Here at XYZ.com, we use two main types of affiliate programs:

1. Amazon affiliate links.

XYZ.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon properties including, but not limited to, amazon.com. Amazon offers a small commission on products sold through their affiliate links. Each of your purchases via our Amazon affiliation links supports our cause at no additional cost to you.

If a blogger links to an Amazon product (with a special code for affiliates embedded in the link), and a reader places an item in their "shopping cart" through that link within 24 hours of clicking the link, the blogger gets a small percentage of the sale. Amazon links are not “pay per click.” If you click on the product link and stay around Amazon and purchase something else, however, I will get commission on that sale.

Anytime you see a link that looks like astore.com/... or amazon.com... it can be assumed that it is an Amazon affiliate link.

2. Product affiliate links.
These affiliate links work the same way: if you click the link and buy the product, then the blogger gets a percentage of the sale or some other type of compensation. Things like e-book bundles, e-courses, and online packages are usually affiliate links, as well. Again, prices are not different if you use these affiliate links. You will not pay more by clicking through to the link. These links are not “pay per click", unless otherwise denoted.

What about sponsored content?

I do not write sponsored posts. I want to bring you real, unbiased information. However, if a post is sponsored by a company and it is a paid sponsorship, I will disclose this clearly in the beginning of the post.

Google "FTC Affiliate Disclosure" This is what the FTC has to say, "If you mention a product you paid for yourself, there isn’t an issue. Nor is it an issue if you get the product for free because a store is giving out free samples to its customers.

The FTC is only concerned about endorsements that are made on behalf of a sponsoring advertiser." In other words, If you received something of value in return for mentioning a product you have to disclose the fact that you are a paid shill.

By way of disclosure, I am not an attorney.

You will see disclosures that simply say "Understand that the authors on this site my receive financial compensation for products recommended on this site." Check out affiliate marketer websites till you find a disclosure that makes sense to you. Be careful, most websites are protected by copywrite.

So far, I have found this by a **google search**:

My opinion; The complete loss of Laisse Faire Economicss.
Bye bye privacy.

Thank you. Only problem is that plugin is not compatible with my theme and was last updated three years ago. True about privacy but I guess we have to comply, right?

Yikes! The best info I could find,.
Maybe you could create a disclosure page just for that purpose, the FTC has a pdf file on the link I sent you. As an example for tje text or reading.

I will look into the link now. Thanks.

Very good question. I will be following this thread and would like to hear more as things develop.

Thank you

Did you do a search in plugins at your dashboard? I didn't find one when I searched, but, did find that at WP: http://714web.com/add-ftc-compliance-blocks-wordpress-shortcode/

HI - yes I did search within my WP but didn't find one. But the Insta Legal Pages didn't show either - so I wondered if I wasn't searching well enough. I would have thought there would be a plugin for this - as there is for the EU Cookie Law etc. I will take a look at your link - thanks for taking the time to look.

That's most likely the reason there is no free plugin for this ... the law. Companies are hesitant to provide freebies especially when they may be held liable for something.

Hope the link is useful to you.

Cathy - this was a great link - thanks. Installed the short-code plugins as directed, editied them so that they were styled to me and now have an easy way of showing an FTC declaration on each post. Best to comply. Thanks again for finding that.

Yea! This makes me feel good, Gary! Love to help!

Good question. I'm working on a financial site and would like to know the same answer for the SEC disclaimer requirements. I'll be interested in the answers you get. Let us know. Ted
