6 Years With WA...
I woke up this morning and checked my profile, I joined November 21, 2007... 6 years ago. What an exciting journey this has been...
I feel very lucky that I am in the place I am right now where I can spend so much quality time with my family and friends.
If somebody would have asked me 6 years ago...
Where do you see yourself in 6 years? What are you working with? Whom are you working for? How are your hours spend?
... my answers would have been:
- Have my own business, being my own boss.
- Working from home so that I can spend quality time with my kids.
- Run a business that I can take with me, that will allow me to travel.
- Decide my own salary meaning that I will not have a boss telling me what I am worth, telling me that this is the x amount of money I should be making...
With that in mind, I am living my dream :)
I put a lot of hours in and there are ups and downs but it is all worth it!
There has been a lot of changes in the internet marketing industry the last years. I thought that I would share with you what my last year looked like, what changes I have made...
Focus - If you have been doing affiliate marketing for some years you know that back in the day (we are talking 4 – 5 years ago :) ) working with small niche sites were very profitable. A lot has changed and today authority sites is the way to go. So for the last year I really put my focus on one site. I still dabbled with a few of the other sites I had set up but my main time, effort and focus went to this one site... and that turned out to pay off.
Stay focused on one project at the time. For some this means working with one or two sites... forever. For me this means I set up my site in this case I worked with it for about a year, now I feel that I have gotten the site to a place where I can be more hands off. I outsource my content, I outsource some of the videos I use for traffic and that frees up a lot of time... There is still a lot of work and maintenance that needs to be done with the site and the profit needs to be calculated :) but I feel ready to take on another project... project 2014...
Traffic – If you know me a little bit you know I have been a big fan of article marketing... That did change during 2013. I still use article marketing occasionally but it is not longer my main traffic source.
Submitting well written content on a regular basis to my site has been a major factor to getting traffic. Another one that has drawn a lot of visitors to my site is video. I have the past year both outsourced videos and doing my own screen cast videos. Submitting these well optimized videos on a regular basis has given me lots of first page Google listings.
Monetization – this site is an affiliate site. I took it one step further then most my competitors and I compared the products side by side so the visitor could pick and choose the product that suit them the best. I have NO selling what so ever. I provide them with information I don`t pitch a product because the commission is better I don`t pitch a product because the price is higher... I compare side by side and let them make the choice.
Did It Work?
The result and growth of this site month by month has been incredible. All I can say is I am so excited to see where this site will be in another year... or two...
Thank you Kyle and Carson for providing a great community. Thank you all for your support, knowledge, help and wisdom you all know who you are :) oh and Rich for always "challenging" me with or without flying monkeys.

Hi, Yoshi again. I´ve been googling "authority sites" and have found several resources that are very interesting. Thanks again. It is changing my entire perspective. The idea that "quality" can be your foremost concern is greatly appealing to me, coming from an artistic background.
After reading, I want to build a cathedral of a website.
I would like your opinion on something, though, if you would be so kind:
My plan is to create a website about "inbound marketing" -which is a subject that I´m learning passionately at this moment of my life- . However, I think that in terms of niche, it is very broad. My original intention was to cut it down and choose "facebook marketing" or "youtube marketing" or "social media marketing"
Now that I´m learning about quality, though, I feel that it would be a better website if I include all the subjects that I am currently studying now. Does "authority site" thinking overrule previous concerns about niche or should I just stick with the basics and try to really hit the narrowest niche that I can?
Hi Yoshi,
I think the key here is to focus on one subniche at the time. Get a broad domain name or a brandable domain name that over time will allow you to to discuss all above things. Start with one though, say youtube marketing, become the master of youtube marketing... when you have mastered that area and made that work for you and your site, then you might want to think about taking on another subniche.
Hope that makes sense,
Veronica
Wow, thank you so very much. Reading this post was magic. It answered so many questions that I had been asking myself (and others) in the past few days. And it also raised other questions, like: where can I learn more about "authority sites"?
Thanks again!

I really needed to read this today. About how long did it take you to ring in enough income to quit your job and stay at home full-time?
To be honest I didn`t have an option I had to make it work. We moved from Sweden to the US and when we got here I didn`t have a job. I didn`t want a regular job with 2 weeks vacation... I wanted something where I could stay home with my kids and take the work with me so I could go back and see my family and friends... With that being said, it took me around a year to reach a good monthly income that I could live off.

Great, as you said in your post above that you are living your dream. How fulfilling is that feeling? You already have the Joy of achievement.
Many people want to live their dream but only few attain it. - Joe
Thank you.
I have many things left to achieve on my list :) Working on them along side building my business and raising my kids is the way to do it for me and my family.
