Mnemonics, Wonderful Device
Rick has given me an idea for a post. In one of his recent posts he mentioned mnemonic devices for memorising the Great Lakes and the former African countries.
Another example of first letter mnemonics.
Now let's check your knowledge of some well-known facts things we learned at school.
Can you recognise what these mnemonics refer to? Can you come up with the idea what these words signify?
"My Very Elegant Mother Just Sat Upon Nine Pins"
"Never Eat Soggy Waffles"
"Please excuse My Dear Aunt Sally"
Mnemonic devices are tools which help us memorise things easier. And they can be quite various, not just the type we have looked at.
Looking at our own fists we can easily see the number of the days in a month.
Funny, or even absurd dialogues can hep memorise some grammar material.
A picture with a word made up in acrostic manner, can help a child to remember the spelling of a word..
Words included into a funny , or absurd situation can help memorise the difference between the words.
Bright vivid cleverly organised graphics can help memorise prepositions
Mnemonics in music.
Train your brain. Learn to use mnemonics.:)

Loved to see English mnemonics. I figured out, some are for remembering the same things. Such as the directions. Thanks for sharing with us Vera
I still remember the one that helped me type better in the early 60's;
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
Love them too, Mike. Also sometimes create crazy short stories with the new vocabulary incorporated in them for myself and for my students.:):
Loved the reminder! Sometimes thou I forget part of the mnemonic which makes remembering what I wanted to remember difficult all together! LOL! But I love mnemonics, Thanks for the share!
