Dandelion
Spring.
Dandelion in bloom.
Its yellow heads
are here and there-
On slopes of the hills,meadows,
Even in between
Arrogant garden flowers.
Jolly pieces of sun,
Messengers of summer...
In just a few weeks
We will see it turn silver.
Having given us joy
and reminding of fragility of life,
It'll be ready to spread its seeds
For future cycles.
What will you and I
Accomplish in just a few weeks?

On the other hand, a flower which volunteers in places where they are unwanted...well, there is another word for that.
In our lawn this spring the war is with 'fluffies'. When I was a kid, there was nothing better than blowing on a fluffie and watching all the seeds fly off into the wind.
Now, the trick is to gather up as many of those fluffies as possible and bagging them without disturbing the heads, thus keeping hundreds or even thousands of dandelion seeds out of the lawn.
Sorry, Vera. A beautiful hillside is a beautiful hillside (see pic)
but in front of the house, they're kind of a pest.
Cheerz indeed, however to all in the north for a wonderful Spring. Southerners...Enjoy a lovely Autumn.
Thanks , Glenn. My verse is not just about beauty, though I personally think they are beautiful, weeds or not...My post is rather about changes this flower bears , and quickness of the moment. Metaphorically, it applies to us people, too.:)
A beautiful flower while commonly called a weed It has culinary value and actually beautifies a lawn. You are also matched well to the yellow of dandelions and daffodils in the spring Vera
Very cute verse Vera. But I don't like the dandelion in my lawn. It forces me to mow more often. I cringe when I see the seeds start to blow around spreading so there are more instead of less; but they do bring back childhood memories of picking them; and after I had children, being the recipient of the lovely bouquets. And I remember hating to see dandelion on the table when I was a kid because I didn't like it. I was expected to eat a couple bites and then it meant I had to live on boiled potatoes until they went to seed. Later on when I prepared it for my mother and dad I acquired a taste for it. I even picked some this year; but I haven't been able to bring myself to prepare it for just myself. I miss my parents.
So do I , Jeannie. My mother used them in salads, and so did my granny.And- don't you think they actually beautify the lawn? It's just a common concept that they should be taken away from the gardens and lawns, I guess.:))
Yes. They do. They just grow faster than the grass does. Did you ever have dandelion with a bacon and egg creamy dressing? Now I'm hungry for it. Lol.
Hello Vera,
