Can't Enter My Email Account
What a day! I checked even if it was Friday 13th. No, it wasn’t. It wasn’t even Friday or 13-something.I am writing this post as a kind of warning to those who are a little careless about saving passwords and keeping their accounts in order.
Morning was nice. I felt fresh and breezy. Having only an evening lesson today, decided to give some time to the site.
Made a wrong move deciding to use CCleaner. I long ago unckecked the function of deleting passwords so all my accounts open nicely after this procedure. Not today.
Horrified, I realized I can’t enter my email account.
Funnily enough not long ago Stefan and Kaju both wrote about the possibility of such a situation… But we sometimes live carelessly. We think it might happen to anybody, not to us.
I had my login and password written down. I had another email account tied up to this one. I had 2 telephone numbers tied up to the account. Good enough, yeah? But they refused to let me in saying I attempt to enter not in the usual way. Oh my! Me? The most usual….They demanded the proof of the telephone number…And it had to happen… One was labeled as the main one, another was additional…I didn’t use the main one for more than half a year…They didn’t suggest using the additional one as a proof.
So I went to the telephone office to redeem my old number. They said it would be possible in a week. What? I needed it in today.
And you know what? I came home… Tried this and that and somehow I entered. Don’t ask me how- I don’t know.
I immediately started changing the telephone number. Got the notice it will be changed in 31 days… I don’t know what I did to mail robots... I want to make friends with them...
Good luck to everybody. Make sure you keep it all neat.:)

Make sure all your passwords are stored in the cloud in encrypted files. There are a lot of ways to do that. I use 1Password.
I am more old-fashioned. I have my small notebook and I write them down there. Thanks anyway.:)
Yikes...this whole business is getting very complicated. Your experience, in addition to Cheryl's blog about the pitfalls of social media, makes me wonder if it's all worth it especially since I'm not earning any income. Just one of those days.
Debbie
Maybe it's just one of these days as you put it....:-(
But it's getting more and more complicated, true...Feels like robots dictate us what to do... Mail robots(and you can't negotiate with them because they are programed and they don't understand human language), Google robots, etc...Haven't seen Cheryl's blog yet... As for the income- many people earn it here.It takes time and following the path they have gone already...Though I do have doubts sometimes, too. Not about program- it works, about my own ability . But it's quite normal, I believe. :)
I agree...I'm not doubting WA just my ability to follow through. But knowing I'm not alone helps. We are on this together.
Debbie
Yep...We are all human, and we have our strengths and weaknesses. Good we can help each other with what we are good at.:)
Not to worry, to take precautions. Be sure about the safety of passwords, connecting accounts with the working phone number. That's the main, I guess.:)
Okay! Maybe you can help me!!
I'm off WebRider...my other handle, but my phone still wants to make my WebRider , not brichnow 21.
Any suggestions, folks...
Password for phone, automatically pulls up WebRider...Not brichnow21... No, problem with my laptop, but I really can't use my phone.
Any, suggestions, including driving to Verizon, I'll take!
I need my phone connection, to WA.
Thanks,
Barb
PS. Walking away from a "problem" , is sometimes the best thing to do!
Good afternoon Vera,
What a mess!
For sure we like to keep it clean, Michael just fished 2 snakes out of the big pond. He had a fish in his mouth which was saved. Now they live on the neighbours plot, I hope they stay there.
Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske
That was a mess , Taetske...Don't want it to be repeated...
Fished two snakes? Sounds pretty scary...Even worse than my lockout..lol...Hope he was safe doing that...:)
Hello Vera,
Since Gmail is my hub to my online world I always write down my password in case I change it.
What has helped me is that I have had the same cell phone number for the past 5 years, because I have autopay on my phone bill.
These two backups keep me up to date with Gmail.
I also synched Gmail on my phone to stay connected.
I remember how it feels to be locked out of your Gmail account.
It happened to me 5 years ago so I have taken the above precautions to not have it done to me again.
I'm glad you got back in.
All the Best,
Louisa
Yep, now I want to play safe...Having a telephone number tied up is a saver. Thanks for sharing your story, Louisa.:)
I use LastPass to maintain all my PWs, and so far it's been frustratingly imperfect but never obstructionist. Glad to were able to muddle your way around the technology!.
Tim
Like this-"frustratingly imperfect but never obstructionist" Beautifully said. Thanks, Tim...Not the last fighting, i am afraid...lol.:)
WOW, Vera. That's scary. Sure sounds like someone hijacked your account and maybe changed your password. Good luck! Carol
I have had situations where they kept taking me in circles with continuing to ask for phone number when I have already given it to them. I change my passwords just to be safe when that happens, though.
Yep, I agree .That's good practice.I am just so tired after communicating with them. All the same things, often contradicting each other, not too clear instructions...
But i will change the password, sure. Thanks..:)
Your description of all the hoops they were making you jump through was what made me think it might be someone phishing to get your information by asking over and over like that. Glad you're staying safe.
Well, there are so many of them nowadays. you are right. Still hope this was not the case, just my carelessness about the current telephone. Telephone is a saver. Once I was locked out of Facebook- it was the telephone that helped.:)
One time I was out of town and trying to log in to my accounts from another person's computer, and never did get in. So frustrating! Glad you got your problem taken care of. Be safe. Carol
Yep.. They are getting crazier and crazier about security- if we can call it this way...lol:)

I am terribly sorry that you went through this ordeal. I. am glad that you got it all straighten out though. When you need that right away they say a least a month but when they need us it has to be right away.
Yep... That was pretty unpleasant...Will have not to use CCleaner till my telephone is changed. Exactly a month...
They should change some of the rules like from 1 month they should cut down 2 weeks and things would be better. But I know that is going to happen.
Yes, very often we are so vulnerable facing technologies. But we have to play according to their rules, it's life...
Like, can anybody understand Google algorhythms to the full? I read even those working for Google can't.
You are so very right about playing the game we have to do that but only for a short time of course because we will be one of those bigwigs through our business.
