I bought a dot com domain from Namecheap with the intention to build an affiliate website. I posted content only twice and forgot about it. Namecheap reminded me about the renewal several times but ignored them. See image below:

The other day while clearing my computer of the unused bookmarks, I was surprised to see my "secretatm.com" was up for sale for $1,695 having only invested $10 previously. See image below

If only I knew of the Domain Flipping Business...

wow thats crazy

I also agree with you

Don't beat yourself up about what could have been. Better opportunities will come. Get ready to seize them.

Yep, yesterday is history, today is opportunity and tomorrow is mystery. Be blessed.

The only way someone would pay that much is if the website had history of monthly income. Based on what you said, it doesn't sound like it was bringing in much traffic so it is probably not ranked very well (strike 2). About the only thing it has going for it is that it is an aged domain. But that is not enough to justify that kind of price tag, again without serious, consistent monthly income. I doubt they will even get $50 for this unless there is something I am not seeing here.

Best Regards,
Jim

Interesting point

I agree with what Jim and other people have said about this. Often times domain name values are over inflated. However, occasionally people get lucky and are willing to spend a lot of money to buy a domain.

True Thomas, that can happen

Leave it behind and move on, better days are ahead

It's a learning curve Grace. Hope it won't happen again.

You must had made this Domain, reaching the sky with your small content ;)
You are a good writer :P

Thank you for the comment

If it makes you feel better VJ, one of mine oldies is up for over 80k. Their dreaming though... BIS & Trialynn below hint at this. These prices are often way inflated.

Yes am aware depending on the buyers needs. Others do pay.

interesting to know. so if it were to sell, was it going to be your intellectual property marcy

So right Marcelina, it took me days with countless keyword research to come with such domain name. Only to let it go so easy. Unfortunate I wouldn't buy it back with so much dollars.

what a loss! unfortunately you have learned by your own mistake to benefit others learn from yours. i want to believe even if the domain name was not popular it might have gained traffic over the months. unless the price has been inflated for whatever reason, considering what techhound is saying !!! marcy

Wow that seems a bit harsh and smacks of profiteering, cannot see anyone wanting to buy it for that sort of money, I set mine to auto renew, sorry this has happened and it serves as a reminder to keep check on our names

Thank you for the kind words Cathy. We learn business the hard way

Agreed, but at least it has not sold for that about yet! If only's will be many in our lives. We must live, attempt to learn all we can and accept the rest.

Yep Trialynn, what ever price it fetches I won't get a cent from my $10 invested. lol

It may be for sale at that price - it doesn't mean it's going to be bought for that price. :) Beverley

Very true, my thoughts exactly.

Even if it's half the list price, it's big bucks to me: lol
