Dress For Success

I've heard the term through out my life, "dress for success". But with on-line affliate marketing who cares what you are wearing to develop content!? Your behind a computer screen and no one sees you.

Or should I care?

This morning I popped out of bed with a growing list of tasks to get done. Growing as we are decluttering our home to sell. I soon found myself dressed and throwing on a load of laundry when I spied the wall and shelving I had prepared the night before for painting "sometime" today. I looked down at my fresh new clothes and knew that "sometime" today I would need to change into my painting clothes. Then with the true spirit of procrastination I began to vaguely think of when that "sometime" would be.

Bam! It hit me. If I truly thought that the painting needed to be done I needed to put those clothes on now. Just like exercising I need to have my exercise clothes beside my bed with my runners so that on waking up there is no procrastination and those clothes are put on and the decision is made that I WILL go for a run.

So now I'm dressed for painting, ready to go get the task done and all those in the house can see my intentions and will not interrupt my task.

Eureka! What if on those days that I have "scheduled" time to write content I put on my "writing" clothes? I would have them ready and waiting and once on I knew that it would be time to write and so would everyone else in the house. So I'm pulling out a favourite loud shirt that always seems to loud to wear in public and putting it in my office. When I walk in the office the shirt goes on and no bill paying, facebooking etc is done until the content writing is done. I'm telling my kids and husband that this is my website building work clothes so they will know I amworking and respect my creative writing without interruptions.

Can't wait to put on my "writing" shirt!

How about you? What ritual do you do or don to focus on writing? I would appreciate your thoughts and comments.

This is great! It reminds me of something I read in Rhe Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. It is a book about finding out what triggers habits and identifying the rewards we receive from those habits and how to purposely create new habits. You should check it out!

I most certainly will check it out. Thanks. I'm very interested in habit building.

I got the audio version and just played it in the car on my way to and from work. If you have a chance to check it out, I'd love to know what you think!!!

I'll let you know. I listen to most books while walking dog and doing chores around the house.

I think dressing for success is a great idea. I know when I "dress up" I feel more motivated to work on my online business.

I like your idea of wearing a "writing" shirt. I'm gonna have to get one for myself lol.

Cheers,
Marsha

...and does the old saying "Clothes make the man" apply to women, too?...just musing...you seem to have a good handle on this whole thing...but, then, "dressing", it occurs to me, also applies to our website...no?...

Press On!
