In wordpress I go to xml site map under all in one seo and click on "update" and it doesn't create. Instead it gives me an error. I don't know how to fix this. Any suggestions?
Yes copy the part of your url that says sitemap.xml and then go to your google webmaster tool find sitemap in the menu there you will create sitemap and then paste it there do not type it in you must copy and paste. Then click on test sitemap if that works click on create. Know you should be fine now.

let's take a step back, this is something that has to be done as a custom menu,
1st step is to go into "Appearance" and then select "Menus"
from there you create the menus that you want
- in this case we will assume at least a "top" menu and a ""side" menu
for the "top" menu, make sure that you also check the box Primary Navigation: if specified, used instead of Default menu
for the "side" menu, you will then go into "Appearance" and then "Widgets" and select the "Custom Menu" widget and put it into the sidebar location that you desire
this is just a quick run through on the steps, and hopefully this is help with your challenge!
