Thank you all very much for your kind words of support. I'm looking forward to the next lesson within my course, as I'm now reviewing Lesson 4, Course 2, Creating a Keyword Rich Post - it feels like things are coming together and that this is where the hard work starts.

However, although I refer to it as hard work, it's fun. My website is about a part of my passion for photography, working with Lensbaby Optics. I realise that this niche is perhaps too narrow and the products I'm taking about are outdated, but I'm using this to get a good working knowledge of the business model that WA offers.

If I enjoy writing the content, I am more likely to pursue this with a goal in mind to be in a position to leave the '9-5' by the end of 2017.

Well done Kaz, don't worry too much about the ranking at the moment, you need to build up google's trust. concentrate on the tutorials, learning about low hanging fruit and where to place the keywords for most impact. The main criteria is to make the site very interesting for your visitors, as it is these people who will make your business a success.
