History, a sad day for net neutrality

This is a repost, because I have been told some of you cannot get to my original post:

Net neutrality received another verdict that could sent it to death row. Allowing cable companies to give preferential treatment to large corporations, while us little folk will be put on a slow lane, if any lane at all.

There was an encampment of protesters in front of the FCC, an unprecedented backlash from Congress, all to no avail.

For the next 60 days comments will be accepted from us and the general public pro or con the FCC's plan.

Donations are being asked for to fund an emergency campaign to save the free and open Internet.

An alternative to reclassify the Internet as a public utility, like electricity was proposed just before the vote took place

The public is now being asked whether to kill net neutrality or to save it by the reclassification into the utility category.

It seems that the chairman of the FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is determined to kill net neutrality.

President Obama claims to be pro net neutrality but he appointed Chairman Tom Wheeler, an ex cable man who wants to get rid of net neutrality.

Attempts are being made to generate an avalanche of public comment against the FCC's plan during the 60 day comment period. Hopefully larger and larger websites will alert their users about the push to kill net neutrality.

The public seems pretty angry about the events that have happened.

Another push for donations is being made and hopefully, together we can override the big corporations that are, once again trying to extort money from the small operations, putting them at a severe disadvantage.

Thanks for keeping us up to speed on the Net Neutrality activities Terea.

Just to be clear for anyone who isn't following this in the news. Net Neutrality does not affect your online business, rankings, or anything of the sort. It's not something that most people will notice at all.

This sort of appeal needs to go viral all over Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. I've read that these social media and other independent news agencies get the actual genuine news, with evidence from many handheld video and photo devices, firsthand before the main media which is distorted in many ways.

Agreed.

Hippywot - My only point is they can't provide concrete answers until they have all of the information. I think we are in agreement on this and I am in agreement with your thoughts as well.

"President Obama claims to be pro net neutrality but he appointed Chairman Tom Wheeler, an ex cable man who wants to get rid of net neutrality".

The president is no different than any other politician. If he were, he wouldn't be president. I don't blame him or an other politician. I blame the guy I see in the mirror. Until everybody see's that the person in the mirror is at fault, the beat goes on.

There are very few people who are prepared to withdraw from corporate culture. Which is really the only solution.

But, at the end of the day, aren't we all here to make lots of money? Aren't we all just good capitalists wanting a piece of the pie?

So why shouldn't big companies do what they can to make their piece bigger. I don't blame them. Do you?

If you live in the U.S. you have 2 Senators and 1 Congressional Representative. If you don't know how to get their phone numbers, send me a message and I'll get it for you so you don't have an excuse.

The least any of us can do is make 3 phone calls. You probably make 30 unnecessary phone calls every day. Do it while you're watching Jerry Springer. You won't miss much.

Again......PEACE

Yes, I blame them. Just because a company wants to make money does not mean that they should go about it by hurting others. I worked for a Fortune 50 company for about 8 years. We made lots of money, but we also had ethics and standards. We offered value ad programs that in the end saved our customers money, thus having more people want to do business with us.

Making money by hurting others ability to do so, in my opinion, is unethical. You may call it survival of the fittest, I call it being a greedy jerk. Can you imagine if all industries did this? Making money in a way that didn't allow others to grow as well...it would only hurt the economy and potentially lead to the collapse of every one except the biggest, richest companies.

Interesting.....on FB I received a request to sign a petition against this from my senator.

I (...guessing many of us...) am very interested in hearing the thoughts of Kyle and Carson on this. However, the fact is they can not (as no one ever does in the USA) have all of the facts. My friends, they can be speculative only. Let's not forget their entire business model is based on acquiring clients with the intent of starting an Internet based business. The waters are murky at best and putting yourself in Kyle and Carson's shoes ... really - what would you say to your devoted clients? It's hard to be speculative and authoritative at the same time (though in jest, I will say our politicians do an amazing job at this). So while it would be nice to hear their thoughts, I am suggesting that out of respect for them, what they have created, and the fact that they are basically in the same boat as we (waiting and not knowing), that we allow patience to be our virtue. I suspect that in time, they will talk with us all..... God Bless! ~Cathy

This is not a regional issue, we're talking about the internet, folks. If this move is successful here, trust me, it's just a matter of time before other countries jump in especially when money is involved.

I am guessing Kyle and Carson are listening with keen interest because this issue is front and center to their business and of course ours. The reason being, what will be the incentive to start a small internet-based business if you cannot be seen in the marketplace unless you pay. Many people come to WA because it is affordable but as we know some are still struggling with their tight budget.

This is global, folks, don't make the mistake of thinking it is a U.S. problem. We're all in this together.

Enjoy your weekend!

Perfect and thks for the listen.

This problem is worldwide and not just in the US. I'm a political activiste and have been for many years in my country. This is only the beginning of what we call a new world order where the ultimate goal is to empower hugh corporations who have ties to the political leaders. The ultimate goal is to slowly take away citizens rights. This is the reason for manifestations all over the world.

I will stop there! Have a great day.

5

You are spot on Annick, the new world order is very real, and they will stop at nothing to take control of the entire global economy ! Its a slow and precise process initiated many years ago.........gaining momentum at a alarming rate ! They already control huge financial institutions, the media , lobby groups/companies and most of the largest multi national companies of the world. It will affect each one of us in the long run.............its time we stand up for our rights !

3

There are some major companies against it, including Google and Netflix.

The problem is a lot of us are still not sure what any of it means? Slow downloads? Problems with streaming video? If this is the case then surely a lot more similar companies are going to join in the fight against it.

What it looks like from here is that we are going to go back to the option to buy whatever service we want, like dialup and broadband, with the faster service obviously costing more.

1

Don't get me started....

1

Are we able to get Kyle's and Carson input on this and how this would affect WA and it's members?

1

I am in Australia so I don't think it would affect me unless it affects WA itself. Then it might be a different story for all here.
