What Does Privacy Mean?

This post does not have anything to do with WA directly, but it is something I find quite amusing. It started a couple of months ago, when a friend of mine bought a component for his laptop on-line. He is not into IM in any way so his inbox does not get filled with unwanted emails, but suddenly he was finding emails promoting all sorts of electronic goods. When I looked at the website he used it asked for your email address to keep you informed of any new products they might introduce, but stressed they respected your privacy and would never pass your details to any third party.

About six weeks ago my young cat, which thinks it’s a dog sometimes, chewed up my fire wire cable which had a chewy outer casing that she really enjoys. I used the same site to order a replacement cable, but I used a totally virgin email address, that I was going to use on a project that fell through. I thought no more about it, the cable arrived two days later as they said it would, and that was that. Anyway about an hour ago when I was having a cup of coffee I checked that email, and you would never guess what I found. I had 816 unopened emails, covering everything from electronics to on-line gambling, so I was really pleased that they respected my privacy, because otherwise who knows how many emails I might have had. Long live privacy! Before using that email address it had been on my computer for over six months without any activity.

wow...I hate it when companies break our trust by selling our private details...don't they know that ultimately they will loose future business because of that?

Just maybe the answer is to reverse things and get them so much spam, show them what real spam is like.LOL
