Lesson From a Newbie: Getting your blog pics "just right" with Canva and PicMonkey

Just starting out and choosing a lifestyle blog approach, I find myself obsessing over finding just the right photos for my site. I know that ideally I would want unique photos, but at this juncture it's not feasible in terms of time. Maybe one day...

After browsing the boards for other WA experiences, I discovered that 1) I better make sure I have the legal right to use a photo and 2) that stock photos are expensive. It's no stretch of the imagination that I spent a full day trying to sort out my best option. Here is what I came up with.

I purchased $10 in credits from canva.com and found some really cool stock pics. Many are free but the ones I chose were in the $1 range. What I liked about the search availability on canva was that I could look up pics by subject and color. This was super helpful in accomplishing the uniform look I'm going for on my blog. Another great advantage of using canva pics was that I could pick the correct size for my blog post that kept size the same as well.

Once I had my canva pics, I then took theme over to picsmonkey.com where I already had a premium account. I applied the same filter to each and it made such a difference in tying together the "feel" I'm going for on my site. I'm so stoked about the cool retro feel that my pics now give my blog. I've added a clip of my home page to give you a look.

Super easy, super cheap and hopefully super legal in terms of copyright coverage.

Thank you for this simple discussion about something that many members are actually tearing their hair out over!

Are you aware you can create images all your own with Canva also Kelly? No worrying about attribution there! Canva is terrific and I intend to use it in future web design work!
Thank you for this super post!
