"Bad" comments
When I started my business on Wealthy Affiliate, I thought a simple "Hey! great website !" was considered a good comment because it was so positive and friendly! And I was myself delighted when I would find a similar comment on one of my articles! It would boost my spirits and make me feel like I was doing a good job!
But Kyle says it very clearly : a comment should be relevant and create a conversation between you and the person who came to read your article.
So when you leave someone a comment, you really want to take the time to read their post. If you have to spend a little extra time searching the entire website to find an article that really picks your curiosity, do it! By all means. =)
It is much easier to write a quality comment if the article interested you in the first place.
Writing something like "Hi, great website, very informative thanks!" is really nice and can not be considered as a bad intention but I believe it does not help the website ranking sufficiently. Try to always keep in mind that you leave comments to help someone.
Ask yourself the questions : is my comment going to show google how useful this post was? Am I creating a conversation with the writer? How would I feel about getting such a simple and not committed comment?
Of course sometimes you'll get genuine "thank yous" on your posts, because people loved your article, have no further questions and just want to thank you for helping them. But when you leave a comment to a WA member, keep in mind that we are all helping each other getting ranked on google.
Good comments
A good comment is a comment that is relevant to the content of the post. A good comment is constructive feedback and it is good for SEO. It should take more than 2 minutes to write a good comment.
Here is my routine when leaving a comment :
1) I search the website until I find an article that picks my curiosity. I try and pick a post that either teaches me something or either that I know of and think I can debate on
2) I read the article, thoroughly and read some of the comments. I don't want to write something someone else has already written...
3) I ask myself : have I learned anything? Is there something I don't understand in this post? What did I like about it and why? Is there anything in this post I disagree with?
4) I leave a comment that is at least 3-4 sentences long, preferably asking a question or debating on a particular point, relevant to the post.
When you ask people questions in your comments, it enables them to create trust with their audience and to use comments as an opportunity to help them more by adding additional resources within their answer. When you ask a question, the owner of the website will have the opportunity to insert a link to a training for instance or to a program.
By asking question or writing relevant and interesting comments you give someone the chance to increase their conversions in the long term.
And when you do so, people will give it back to you.
Your website is good and your layout is beautiful doesn't help your website grow, I actually received copy/paste comments here on three different pages, by the same person. lol
But some of the comments I received were really awesome and very engaging and that's what we all want!
If you receive an amazing comment on your website why give copy/paste comments ? You are being helped but you don't want to help back?. That can be frustrating if you spent 3 hours giving quality comments.
By the way, I hope everyone could see this training because some members need to learn the importance of giving good comments before requesting.
