If you don't already have your "niche" then I want to simplify things for you here. The most common question I have gotten over the years is:

"What should I choose for a niche?"

To be frank with you, I cannot answer that. I don't know your background, your hobbies, your passions, your interests or what you like to learn about. That is what your niche should be targeted towards...SOMETHING YOU ARE INTERESTED IN.

Unfortunately this is followed by the following question...

"But which niche will make me the most money?"

Again, and again, and again....

The answer to this question is simple. It is NOT about the niche you choose, rather it comes down to how well you understand and connect with your niche. This means understanding the niche, understanding the audience, and more often than not, being able to dig down into much smaller (and less obvious) components of a niche.

Some of the smallest most obscure niches online can produce $1000 /day to businesses and affiliates. People tend to think they have to be in the some massively broad niche in order to earn a living online (like dieting), whereas you could focus on just a small component of this market (dieting for affluent adults, dieting for babies, dieting for weddings) and still earn a very good living.

The first thing you need to do is choose a niche.

It is recommended that you choose something that you are interested in or passionate about, but it is up to you. It could be something that you have always been interested or wanted to learn. Ultimately it has to be something that you are engaged in and would enjoy talking about and building content within on a daily basis.

My task to you is to build a list right now of things that you are interested in.

I am interested in...

ITEM 1 GOES HERE
ITEM 2 GOES HERE
ETC.

Then from that list, choose the one that you are the most interested in. Remember, a niche does not have to stay with you forever...there are millions of them out there, this could very well just be your starting point. I personally have worked within several niches over the years and that is the luxury we have in the online world. KEY is that you choose a niche that you will enjoy being in.

If you are stuck for ideas, have a look through the DMOZ.org directory.

Alright, now you should have a niche. Remember this can be anything and you can choose a different one down the road (or many) if your chosen niche does not work out. Most successful marketers have been in several niches during their online ventures, but we all realize one important aspect about any niche. It is important to understand a niche in depth if you want to succeed within it.

To do this, you need to perform market research...

Don't waste days determining your niche. Something should click and come to mind very quickly, don't waste days performing this trivial task.

Having just begun this journey and come face to face with research and read the introduction to research; I am left with the need to understand how one determines what is being purchased in a particular niche. I can clearly see how other information is gathered but the "what people are buying" part escapes me." Yes, I need to dig deeper. However, it did help to get it out in the open.

Well. I am a *newbie* and still a bit confused. However, it seems that the concept is quite simple. Connect target group to the product, service, etc that they will pay for. Period! And find the very best way to do that. Okies!
