Benefits of Content Marketing on Your SEO

1 - Google Loves Content That Satisfies Search Intent

Google algorithm gives more precedence to the content and quality of blog posts – meaning, pages that offer this value are more likely to get better search ranking.

Think of it this way, most people go on search engines for one purpose – to search for information.

Google categorizes the reasons people search for information online, which it calls search intent.

So here is an example of John who's looking for the best way to make an omelet for his daughters. He goes online and enters the terms in Google’s search box. And Google immediately knows that John's search intent is to get relevant information that will help him make an omelet.

Guess which kind of content will be able to provide the best answers to John's search query?

Videos and long-form articles are more likely to provide the best results. So what does this tell you about content marketing?

Create content that best addresses the search intent of internet users and Google will send the traffic to you.

2 - Keeps Your Visitors Longer

One important metric that Google uses to compute search rankings is Bounce Rate, which measures the time spent by a visitor on a page.

Ideally, 1,000 words should take 4 to 5 minutes to be read through. So when Google sends a user to your site, it expects that user to spend the estimated time reading your content.

But if that person spends 20 seconds and clicks away from your page, it means your content doesn't contain the needed information. Imagine when 500 visitors spend a similar amount of time on your content before leaving your page!

That's a high bounce rate and it can only mean one thing – that piece of content is irrelevant to the particular keyword.

So Google takes a cue and proceeds to reduce the page rank for that content. That means less visibility on Google search and less search traffic to your site!

If you have a good content marketing strategy in place, you would know the right content type to use, including all the elements that make for a relevant piece of content, so you can inspire your visitors to stay longer on your site.
