Step 1: Breakdown The Tasks

Our goal is to write a 5,000 word article. All of us work differently, but we all have a process. Some may be to get on the keyboard and start typing away.

However, you also need to research keyword, the concept of your article, what images to use etc...

and you are doing this among other work and errands that you need to attend to.

Therefore, it is a challenge to get things going and get it done.

Here, our focus is ONLY the task we need to breakdown to write this article.

For me, the tasks are:

  1. Research the concept and keyword
  2. Identify the main points of the article and write breakdown the sections
  3. Find images and resources (references, quotes etc...)
  4. Write article
  5. Format article
  6. Edit article
  7. Review article
  8. Publish article

The above are the main tasks identified to write this article and publish it.

Our next step is to schedule these tasks.

Stanley,
Thanks for a great article. When I worked for a software development company, when used Sprints and Agile for our development. It never even occurred to me to use it in my personal and professional life. It was always something to only be used in software development.

Thanks for opening my eyes.

This is so helpful not only for self-accountability, but also to keep from getting burnt out and/or making mistakes. I think it's also beneficial for the editing process. Thanks for this tip!

Aliece, you can use the methodology in many ways. The key factor is “time boxing.” 20 minutes is best because our brain’s attention span is 18 minutes, therefore the sprint is design based on what our attention span is. This is scientific and it is used by the creators of Ted Talk to make every speech 18 minutes in length.

Oh, wow! That's so amazing. (As an aside, I'm always amazed at the patience, diligence, and dedication there is to conduct studies of any nature.)

I think if you're like me, and filled with lots of ideas at once, you probably would do well with bullets and jotting down your ideas. It also helps to ensure your thoughts are fully developed. You can do it! :-)

I personally read some news as a precursor to ideas,

If i find something that not necessary prompts me but inspires me in another aspect i will start writing.

To me letting my ideas flow without multitasking for example or temporary distraction or interruption, research, photos etc...is the way to add value and character to my particular style

After writing i will go back at the draft and make pointers, specific significant paragraphs and or highlights,
add :
references
photos
videos

To best support these thoughts,
luckily for me i am in china
so getting my very own photo's are not a problem

This works for me scaling things down to specifics before i start to write kills my flair
