On Page Optimization
As earlier mentioned, on page SEO focuses on the important changes you make to your site to ensure you improve search engine rankings. This is where most entrepreneurs get started with their SEO tactic. You have ultimate control over your website content than others - like online listings.
Changes you make to your site with regard to on page optimization include the following:
- Title Tags and Meta Descriptions: Your title tag & Meta description are what is placed in the Google Snippet given in search engine result pages. Your title tags are the anchor texts in blue directing users to your website. The Meta descriptions are some relevant texts showing up below the title tags. In order to tell users and search engines what that specific page stands for, you can have these aspects of SEO optimized by properly including relevant keywords in them.
- Header Tags: Header tags (or Htags) are another important part of your website you want to strategically include keywords in. H1, H2, H3, and more are key elements for SEO in order of importance. Header tags tend to assist with making the writing flow easily and breaking the content up to enhance the readability of your content. Simply put, anyone can view the header tags as subheadings for each sequence of a given page of your website, with H1 standing for the title (which shouldn’t be confused with the title tag). Not alone are they useful to searchers, they help search engines find more information pertaining to the content as well.
- Image Optimization: As regards the use of images on your website, you’ll want to ensure they aren’t too large, as your loading speed can be retarded. You’ll need to add a relevant keyword to your image alt text. This will tell search engines what the images stand for. This will also ensure that your image alt text still appears to enable both search engines and users grasp the subject matter of the image, even if it has troubles loading. Thus, aside from adding a relevant keyword, you should add some descriptive text in your image alt text for both search engines and searchers.
- Internal Linking: You’ll have to link pages internally as part of the effort to help readers navigate through the pages of your website. You can get it done by using anchor text within your content, or using the main and footer navigation menus. For example, if you have relevant pages on your site, you should add links to these pages directing users to one another.
- Keyword-rich content: Keywords are instrumental in SEO, but using it excessively can lead to getting slapped by Google for spamming or having your site removed from search results. The expected keyword density ranges from 0.5 percent to 2.5 percent. Your website content should be tailored around the keywords used in your header tags, title tags, and Meta descriptions – as enumerated above. In coming up with your content, keep the user/search intent in mind.
