Thanks for the update Marcus. When you started your tables site it inspired me to start a mini niche site. But I never did. I couldn't really come up with any ideas that interested me enough to even get started. Then I decided I was just going to let you work on yours and then wait for your updates.

So now I am going to think if I actually want my next site to be a mini niche site or if I want to build up something bigger like my main site (but it is so time consuming and my return on investment hasn't been great, but I could see it becoming an authority site - it is 20 months old right now).

Edited to Add: Maybe you shouldn't think of this site as not being successful. I just did an incognito search for best tablet under $90 (after reading NigelClark's comment above) and you are ranked #1 for that and right below it was your site for best tablets under $80. So perhaps more sales will start coming in.

Thanks Tanja. Unfortunately, best tablet under $90 happens to be a keyword with zero searches. I only included it to fill the gap between $100 and $80 in the menu.

ah, ok. Well, maybe it is something people will start searching for. But my guess would be the more popular one is best tablet under $100

Dang. In terms of sales, how does your tablet site compare to your laptop and synths site? I just wonder whether you're close to the breaking through point, after all tablets DO sell and a lot at that...

Well, my laptop site hasn't made any sales yet, but I only just started working on it.

I am making some sales from my synths site, but not much. Certainly not enough to justify the time I spent working on it.

I'm sure tablets do sell well. I just don't think a mini site like this is likely to succeed big time. My original plan was never to spend lots of time on it. In fact, I've already spent more time on in than i originally intended to. This niche deserves someone who has the enthusiasm for tablets to be able to build a proper authority site covering all angles.

The truth is, I'm not actually a tech geek. I like using technology for certain things, but I'm certainly not someone who enjoys keeping up with the latest tech releases. If I keep having to write about tablets or even laptops, I'm just going to bore myself stupid before long. How many times can I face writing about screen size, RAM, processors, solid state drives, etc.?

But of course, I reserve the right to change my mind at any point...

I hear ya about not being a tech geek. I also like using the stuff but not much interest beyond that. I imagine you also experience boredom reporting on specs with your synths site too. I still think a mini-site could work very well for tablets but if the interest isn't there, it's hard to push through. It's pretty tough sticking with a site for months and months on end when your heart just isn't into it. I constantly struggle with this myself.

Yes, I was initially excited about the synths site, but over time I got bored with writing a lot about technical specs for synths I was never going to own myself.

Whereas it's totally different with my Earn Money with Marcus website. I genuinely get a kick out of trying to expose the latest money making schemes.

Thank you for your honest assessment, Marcus. This is the most important. Not all ideas are great and not all of them work out; I have very much abandoned my first website that dealt with photography, and am now investing in a different niche. All learning is good, though - you will do better for the next one. Please keep posting!

Thanks Daniel. What was the deal with your photography website? What angle did you take? Was it tips or equipment?

My initial intention was to showcase my photography work, embedding both equipment and photography tips within the subject of the pictures themselves. However, this proved EXTREMELY time consuming, as the reviews needed to be on the artsy side, and also proved a bad way to commercialize the products. Eventually I become discouraged and I don't invest time on it at all.

I am not investing in a website to promote importations from within Brazil. This is a very sought after topic, and provides the perfect means to attach affiliate links on my blog posts. It has been more successful than the photography site, even if far away from providing significant income.

Well, these things are all lessons for us. I like to think that failures are all part of the path towards success. Best of luck with your new site.

Thank you for all the work you put into this. All 7 parts. That's a good looking website. I was surprised it didn't do better. I tried a mini niche site once & it really wasn't worth my time or effort. I thought it was just me.
