VINE Principle
If you don't have a priority list, you don't have a goal to reach. Remember: no set priorities, no time management. Without priorities, you will simply waste all of your time on unproductive work.
To set your priorities, try my simple VINE Principle based on asking the following question:
- “What will happen if I don’t do this task immediately?
V – Very important – unless you do it your business will badly suffer. This is your top priority and you must ensure you do it urgently.
I – Important – not as urgent as “V” tasks. Still, you can expect negative consequences. You better do it right after you manage your very important tasks.
N – Not too important – no negative consequences in sight. You should do it, but your business will not suffer in any measurable way if you don’t do it in time.
E – Eliminate – absolutely nothing will happen if you fail to do this task.
Use the VINE Principle every time you have a task to complete to determine how important it is.
