4. Simplify Your Words
When we were in high school, when we used big and complicated words, we were praised for using them. While in college, we read books with a lot of Latin words. This was how we became an enemy of ourselves when it comes to writing with clarity.
If you want your readers to understand what you are trying to communicate, then you need to take them through the easy route. The use of big words will make your readers get pissed off, and a long sentence will make them weak. As much as possible, make use of simple words in your content.
Conclusion
Have you ever missed your way in a very big forest? Or have you ever checked the map and wonder where you are on it? Feeling lost in content comes with a bad feeling too. There is a difference between getting lost in the content and getting lost in a forest.
When you are lost in a forest, you will be determined to figure your way out. When it comes to readers, they don’t have such determination. Writing content with a lot of signposts is not an easy task as it comes with a lot of reviews, editing, and reediting.
Though the process might be difficult, its result will put a smile on the face of your readers. They will stay engaged on your page and they would like to listen to your advice or buy from you. So try your best to always make your content simple and clear.
I appreciate the pointers you mentioned in this training. I would digress on the use of metaphors. Metaphors can also be misunderstood especially if readers have limited use of the English language.
I write in simple terms to help the reader understand the basic concepts. The use of infographics or videos for people like me who are Deaf and rely on the use of visual images to help understand. Like you stated, write in a pictorial format.
Great training!
It seems like mobile device users make it hard on content writers because of screen size, speed and impatience. Therefore implementing your ideas is great.
Many times in my case I ended up abandoning many readings because the truth is I do not understand the message.
