If you want specific lines to be ignored, you can begin such with the hashtag “#”. So, more information about excluded URLs may be included in your .txt file so far every description line begins with the hashtag (#). You don’t need to get a complete list of backlinks uploaded to your site. The uploaded .txt file is, simply, the link list Google will be instructed to disavow.

The sample of a valid file may look like any of the lines below:

# Domain.com ignored most of the links, but misapplied these:

http://toxic.domain.com/blog/comments.html

http://toxic.domain.com/blog/paid-links.html

# got in touch with the creator of spamseo.com on 8/2/2014 to remove toxic links from their site

# requested for removal of links but got no reply

Domain: spamseo.com

In case you’d like Google to disavow all links from a URL such as domain.com, you’d only need to include the line: domain.com.

Hi Israel, if I'm getting 200 backlinks from one single website, all from different pages of the site but going to one page of my site, can I simply submit the domain URL or do I have to do it for the 200+ individual pages?

Thank you for this very useful training.

Hi Israel, I see what I believe to be a lot of spammy links on my website, but I'm not sure about using the disavow tool now you've said it can have devastating effects! Now I'm confused as I have read this on other peoples blogs too. Should I use it or not? You say that alternatively you can ask Google not to take certain links into account. Is this as effective as disavowing? If so, why take the risk of disavowing in the first place if it can be so harmful?

I'd be grateful of any further advice you may have as I just can't get my head around it.

Thanks

Hi StefanieT, thanks for stopping by! The act of disavowing links is proper but you should do that (according to Google) if and only if you have a significant number of low-quality, artificial, or spammy links pointing to your website, and those links will likely lead to a manual action or perhaps they've already led to manual actions on your website. I hope it helps! Don't hesitate to get back to me if you need any further assistance from me. Thanks for reading my training!

Thanks for the reading, CarolMeador! The Disavow Tool was mainly created by Google for website owners who strongly believe there are external URLs linked to their sites that can harm their website's performance in search results. So, while deciding as to whether you should use it or not, this is one of the most crucial factors you would always need to consider.

Finally caught on to what this is all about. Thank you, Israel.

There were several external links that were very, very low quality. In fact, I didn't realize these kinds of sites were still around.

Very eye-opening experience.
