Now that the Bad Bot Blocker is active within your All in One SEO plugin, you will see a new menu item called Bad Bot Blocker.

Click on Bad Bot Blocker, and it will load up the settings page. From here, you can enable all of the features within Bad Bot Blocker such as:

  • Block Bad Bots using HTTP
  • Block Referral SPAM using HTTP
  • Track Blocked Bots
  • Use Custom Blocklists

The User Agent Blocklist will auto-populate with the most common User Agents that are known to cause issues.

The Referer Blocklist will also auto-populate with the most common domain names known for causing referral spam.

Before saving the changes, you can also add the domain names that you have identified within your Google Analytics.

Ensure that you only enter the domain name and not the full URL.

I.e. If you see https://some.domain.com/bad-bot.html

You only enter some.domain.com into the Referer Blocklist.

Also, ensure that you only enter one domain name per line.

You can now click on the blue button at the bottom that says Update Options.

Fantastic stuff as always Chrystopher, I have a question though, I haven't had my site up enough to gather any information on bad problem sites or URLs, can I set the bad bot and come back later and add them as they begin to pester me or will my setting this bad bot early stop them from ever happening.

You're welcome Carolyn :-)

You can reset your WordPress Admin Password yourself by going to Websites (left-hand menu here) -> SiteManager -> Click on the Login button of your website with the issue. You will then see a button that says Reset Password.
