EDITING YOUR STORE: ADDING CATEGORIES

Once you click the button to get started, it will bring you to the editing page where you will begin adding categories to your store. Here's what it will look like:

FIRST RECOMMENDATION: Before adding any categories, I would highly advise you to take a look at your aStore settings at the right of the above picture and edit them as need be. As you see, I personally enabled the mature content screening to prevent certain produces to be available for purchase to underaged individuals. The second option that I'd advise you to enable is the link back to your site which you will see the importance of later in this training. Just enter the name of your site and the URL and you are good to go.

Once you've done this, it's now time to start adding categories by clicking the "Add Category Page" button. Here's what you'll see once you do this. The aStore settings will change to "edit category page" settings.

If you look to the middle of the page you will see a yellow button that says "Add Products". Above that you'll see a tab that has "add individual products" with arrows at the end of the bar. In this bar can choose 1 of 3 options as shown below:

Ultimately, you can choose what option you want but in my personal opinion and what I did, is chose add products by Amazon.com category. Here's why I did that. When you choose this option, it pulls categories that Amazon already has on their site. For instance, refer back to the 2nd picture on this page, you'll see that I have a category entitled Sports Nutrition. When choosing this category it pulls everything and every product that has to do with sports nutrition out of Amazon's database so that nothing is left out. Choosing this option not only makes things easier for you but also provides better value to your customers.

Upon choosing this option, you will need to select a category.

Here's what the category selection page looks like:

This portion is pretty self explanatory. Select the categories that are relevant to your sites content. If your site is about cell phones, you'll choose Cell Phones and Accessories, if it's about computers then you will choose Computers. Being that my website is about muscle building, I chose Sports Nutrition and Health and Fitness.

*IMPORTANT*

This is probably the best advice I'll give in this training so listen up. Please select the option to include all subcategories for this category. What this does is allow all subcategories that are under the main category to be listed under it as a subcategory which makes it easier for your customers to find exactly what they are looking for while providing a wide range of products for purchase.

Also, don't put any keywords in the bottom bar because if certain products don't have that keyword in them but it's still relevant to your site then that product won't be available for purchase. You want to provide the best value possible for your customers and these 2 steps will maximize that.

Still with me? Lets move on!

Thank you native33 this is very helpful. I think I have used Amazon widgets and links when I should have gone the aStore route.
All the best,
Brandon

I wouldn't stray away from the widgets and links because those can also be helpful as well but the aStore is definitely one of the best routes you can go because it gives your customers a centralized place to purchase the products you are selling.
