another great one. quick question. being in the same niche as you phil, would i be going way off topic if i was to blog about my 3 days in ibiza and somehow link it to living the laptop lifestyle. could you see that working?..... anybody? (great 3 days by the way. still feeling it)

You sure can. Just make it niche related. not sure about keyword research for that kind of post but certainly great for you own personal branding and building a relationship with your audience. Those kind of posts are good for email marketing and social sharing.
