This is for any person or business who creates a Facebook Page or Facebook Group or Facebook Event.

Groups, Pages, and Events Must NOT:

  • Be misleading, false, deceptive, or fraudulent
    • No scams or false promises of money or whatever to join
  • Impersonation
    • No claims of being an official group, page or event of any brand/entity/celebrity
    • Parodies and fan pages are allowed, as long as it states unofficial or no affiliated with said brand/celebrity/entity.
  • Gambling
  • Inaccurately tagged content (or encourage others to do so)
  • Incentivization
    • No encouraging fake positive reviews, likes, comments, shares in return for free products or money.
    • You can't buy people to review your page or to like your page with Giveaways, etc.
  • Promote a Drug and Alcohol treatment without Facebook's permission

Promotions on Pages, Groups, and Events

You can run your own promotions on your pages and such, like a giveaway or sweepstakes. However, you must be responsible for the lawful operation of the contest or sweepstakes. Meaning you must have:

    • Official rules
    • Offer terms and eligibility requirements (age and residency restrictions)
    • Compliance with all applicable rules and regulations governing the promotion and the prizes (ie registration and regulatory approvals)
    • a complete release of Facebook from each applicant or entry
    • A disclaimer stating that Facebook is not associated or sponsored or administered the giveaway.

    You must NOT:

    • Give entries for shares to personal timelines
    • Give entries for tagging friends

    Collection of Data

This is just going to be like your website. If you collect information or content from your visitors, you must make it clear that it is YOU collecting that information and not Facebook. You also need to be clear about what it's being used for, such as your call-to-action button, and you cannot use it for anything else without the user's consent.

You also can't use bots, spiders, etc. to collect visitor's information.

If you are in the EEA you might want to read the Page Insights stuff here: https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/page_controller_addendu...

It simply states all the regulations on Page Insights (like Analytics for Facebook Pages).

If you aren't under the GDPR, you're already compliant when they visit your page as Facebook has to be compliant.

    Page-Specific Policies

Your Facebook Business Page must follow these policies

    • Name cannot contain profanity, horrible misspelling or grammar, or consist solely of generic terms and locations
      • No all-capital letters, etc.
    • Apps on your page must comply with the Platform Policy, which I will not be going over, so read this if you want to create an app: https://developers.facebook.com/policy/
    • All content posted to your page is public
    • Your cover photo and profile picture for your Facebook page must not have a verified checkmark or include third-party brands, products, or sponsors
    • No online pharmacies without Facebook's approval
    • You must use age-gating to restrict access to your Facebook page to comply with laws
      • alcohol brands are limited to 21 and over
    • When sharing a third-party link you must NOT edit the post preview!
    • Do not misuse the uploading feature
      • a static page as a video is a No-No
    • Name changes and merges must not make misleading or unintentional connections or substantially change the Page's subject
      • Don't change your Page from "Sally's Dog" to "Sally's Dresses" because you want to sell dresses instead of posting about your dog.
    • Pages promoting regulated goods must limit access to their page to 18+
      • Firearms, tobacco, alcohol, etc
    • You must NOT accept anything of value to drive traffic to third-party sites that engage in traffic arbitrage, click-baiting, an abnormal amount of ads to content, is highly sexual, or is a scam.
    • You must not post or share content that primarily consists of minimal original content
      • Your entire page can't be sharing other people's Facebook posts.
    • BRANDED CONTENT
      • This is basically sponsored posts. If you're offered anything free to share or recommend something, etc, you must use Facebook's Branded Content tool. This will tag the page or business so that people understand the relationship.
      • For pages and profiles, you CANNOT share branded content you did not create, help create or does not feature you.
      • This means they can't give you a random video and pay you to share it with your followers. But they CAN pay you to make a video to share with your followers, as long as you use the Branded Content tool.
      • Affiliate links are NOT BRANDED CONTENT.
    • MUST INCLUDE DISCLOSURES!
      • You must use all the necessary disclosures on your Facebook page that the FTC requires. If you're posting a video about a product you love and are an affiliate, you have to share that. If you are given a product for free to review, you have to share that. If it's your best friend's product, you have to share that too.

    Job Policies

If you offer a job on your Facebook Page, you must comply with the following:

    • Job must not be misleading, fraudulent, or deceptive
      • No MLM, no payment for applying, or vague descriptions
    • Job must not be for illegal activity
    • Job must not be discriminatory (You can't only look for a man or an Asian woman, or a straight man or a single woman, or a woman in her 20s, whatever)
    • Job must not be sexually suggestive or require the use of adult products or services (can't hire for porn gigs)
    • Jobs must not ask for Credit Card info, Social Security or Driver's License info, or bank info

    Geez!!

This stuff is relentless! Right? It's crazy. It's all very common sense if you think about it though. Don't do anything illegal. Don't spam people. Don't scam people. Don't be that guy everyone avoids in the break room at work.

    Advertising Policies are up next!

Apparently, Facebook considers you guilty until proven innocent. I belong to a closed group of people on the Keto Diet who like Mexican food, we share recipes, encouragement, commiserations, victories, and occasionally info about new keto products. That’s it. That’s all. It’s fun, friendly and lively.
Last week we were told our group was being shut down because some strange person reported us a a cult! About 500 comments later, FB finally realized it was silly and relented, but what a hassle.

Lol! Yes, but whenever it's a mistake, you can always appeal and get your account/group/page back.

    People are so odd!

Aw, thank you. I hope I got it mostly understandable. I didn't realize it was going to be as big of a project as it was.

Hopefully, it makes it easier for people to understand than the actual policy pages they have. I navigated a zillion of those things.

One of my ads got deleted when I was GIVING AWAY cow manure. Apparently that is considered to be part of the animal. Ummmm... I don't think they really wanted it any more... LOL

Wow, really?! They probably did have to reject that one because of the no animal parts thing. Crazy!

Wow, so much work has gone into this training, thank you. I have a business page, which I have used for over 4 years, and like you say so much is common sense. People don't like to be spammed in other groups, so I find it interesting when they drop their links all over Facebook and then get annoyed at getting reported. Facebook is a social platform and people need to keep this in mind. Thanks again for this easy to read and digest training, have a great day,
    Denise.

It was interesting to find the various weird rules against things I never even would consider just because someone did it before.

Mostly, I kept getting annoyed people liked to tell other people affiliate links aren't allowed on Facebook just because they got slapped for something.

You can't expect not to get slapped when you're promoting something that's age-restricted, or you're spamming it everywhere, and not using it correctly.

Have you found your FB business page of any use? Nobody ever comes to mine but me and the Facebook bots offering to promote it for a fee.
