1. Pick a Niche

Selecting a niche you are passionate about will give you some advantages over your competitors. It will be difficult to promote a product you have zero interest in, because running a successful drop shipping business is very demanding.

You have to be extra focused and picky with your niche if you want your dropshipping business to compete with other existing dropshipping giants.

Below are some points to take note of when choosing your niche:

  • Aim For Appealing Profits: When scaling a drop shipping business model, your main goal should be marketing and increasing your customer base; never lose sight of those goals. The amount of hard work needed to sell a $50 product is no doubt the same as it would be to sell a $2,000 product. Hence, aim for a niche-bearing product with higher price tags.
  • Low Shipping Costs Are Deal Breakers: Most drop shippers tend to overlook shipping costs; well, it is their own loss because overtime it’s been discovered that it has a major influence on customers’ choices. It influences their decision on whether to buy or not. For example, a bag selling with no shipping cost will tend to be sold out faster than a bag selling with a shipping cost of $10. WHY? Customers don’t want to spend more. So, find something inexpensive to ship; you could also offer the option of free shipping and your sales will be sure to skyrocket high.
  • Market Appealing Products to Impulsive Buyers with Disposable Income: Increasing customer base should not be your only goal; while doing that, you should also ensure that the products you have on display on your ecommerce website is appealing to impulsive buyers with the financial capacity to make purchase on the spot.
  • Rebranding: Your drop shipping business will take on another level when you rebrand the products you sell and pass it off as your own. You can have a manufacturer or supplier produce a product according to your taste or description which you can in turn sell as your own brand with custom packaging and branding.
  • Sell a Scarce Commodity: Pick a product that is hard to come by. A scarce product with a hungry customer base will be beneficial in the long run. This will help drive sales and scale up your business in no distant time. It’s not just about working hard but working smart.

Hi Israel, I have some questions: does dropshipping take less time to develop than affiliate marketing?

I did some research and watched some videos on YouTube that are related to dropshipping, and it seems like dropshipping takes less time to earn the first revenue?

Thank you for the training btw!

Best regards,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
Do your due diligence if you are interested to do dropshipping. It sounds like a lot of work. Some YT ad can make it sound so easy. But if you want to give it a try - do it cautiously. I don't know anyone who has done it before. I wish I do. Good luck!

Enjoyed your article Israel. I would like your thoughts on using dropshipping companies such as Aliexpress. I find that most of the products I am promoting (pet) are sourced from China ect. My main concern though is shipping. With most products coming from China you are looking at 16-30 days and sometimes more. To get around this I usually offer free shipping. Anyways look forward to hearing from you.

All the best.

Glad you enjoyed reading my training, Troy! Much appreciated! Since you're concerned about shipping, AliExpress is a good platform to start with. The company does the shipping on your behalf and you earn your own share of the money without having to bother about how products get to the client. Thanks for your contributions!

Thanks Israel for the training! In regards to Troy's question, many items shipping from China even with Epacket have long shipping times. I was trying to use Oberlo to create a drop shipping site but most products come from China with those long shipping times which should reduce the number of interested customers. Do you know of some quality apps similar to Oberlo that promote products from the US?

Thank you, Israel. A comprehensive plan on getting started with drop shipping. I am especially glad to see a customer acquisition plan. It is something that is often overlooked in many businesses, but it should be one of the most important. Also how to keep your customer and convince them to buy again.
