I had only one broken link but 106 warnings from comment websites. Are we supposed to unlink them? Thank you

Not sure, but I noticed that when I go to the post with the broken link, and click on the broken link, that the website page that is supposed to be broken comes up straight away. So I think that the logic/process to determine that the link is broken needs attention by the plugin developers, because it seems to me that they are reporting 'false' broken links.

Check the link by clicking on it. If it works okay, either the link is not broken or you can dismiss it. Don't leave them on your site. You want you website to be clean of all broken links.

Mick, am I to deactivate the plug-in once I am done checking? The reason I ask is that there is a straight line going through all of my links, which I assume means they are not broken. Thank you.

If there is a straight line going through the link, it means that the plugin thinks that the link is broken....
Reply
ColleenF1 Premium
I am pretty sure that a broken line would symbolize a broken link because all of mine work. But that is why I ask because I am not completely sure and would love to get rid of the lines.

Well, what I do, is activate that plugin, let it tell me about the broken links, look at them, see that most of them are not broken, and then de-activate that plugin. I am thinking of not using that plugin again, because it reports so many broken links that when I manually check are not broken and I have better things to do with my time.

Hi again,
Been working on fixing links. Questions, I have a page that lists where dude ranches are by state. A few of the broken links are here and it concerns states with double words like North Dakota etc. I don't know how to fix these. Seems it should be the same as fixing any of them, but for some reason, the link given won't work.

As I have been fixing these links more show up and I click on them and they are actually working so why does it tell me they are broken?

Guess I don't understand much about this. Thanks for any help/ suggestions. :)

Hi judy, I had the same problem, I found that if u select all, and only do ur links option is best, cos the backlinks are others they should fix, only do yours. best advice..

I had this broken link checker installed on my site but I got rid of it because of the failed connections and I didn't understand it at the time. So thank you for clearing this up. I will reinstall it.

Neat plugin. I think this is one of those plugins that are best deactivated and then manually activated to check every now and then, and then deactivated again.
Does this keep overheads down, or did I dream that part?

Brilliant tool! I have downloaded the plugin and found some broken links. But they are all links to websites from people who commented. So I will check and see if they are really broken or not. If not broken, I will click Not Broken. If Broken, I will Unlink it to change it to simply text.

Let's keep going GoGetters! :)

I used the Broken Link checker but had to uninstall and delete it because it seemed to cause strikethroughs on my external links. My links were working fine . Might not be compatible with my Theme.

I found that same issue. I had personal links created for me by a company since they really didn't have an affiliate program. I received the error that they were broken and then when I checked on them, they were stuck through in the post. Looking to try to fix it now.

I checked the links and found they were good. I selected dismiss in the link checker and the strike through disappeared.

I forget if it's this video where you say it is really difficult to work on more than one blog at a time. So I have been working more on one than the other two. Yet, just checking my google analytics, the blog I worked the least on recently has the highest numbers.
I have been advised it is the most brutally competitive niche, yet it is getting more traffic than my other sites.
So I think I will choose that one and even though there are 44 posts, I will re-re-edit them, and it will mostly be for alt tags and image titles. And CTA's since I'm getting more traffic but no clicks.
I hope I have the concept straight at this point.

try restarting your computer, first close all your programs like WA, and then in the lower left corner of your screen (usually), you have an option to restart. Often that is all that is necessary.

Thanks Bo. Didn't have any broken links but none of the SEMrush errors are the ones we've covered so far - and my site only scored 73% which I think must be too low to be acceptable, no?

Great plug-in!

Thank you Bo!

Question: Can we deactivate the broken-link-plugin after the check and acitvate it when we do another check again?
Reply
hirohurl Premium
Well, that was quick! LOL!

My blog is relatively new and I got an 82% score from my Semrush on 32 crawled pages.

However, I had to add some alt tags, meta descriptions and a title tag. I have to add more content to some of the pages, but I was aware of that.

I will run the broken link check now... :-)

All done :) No broken links. That was an easy one.
Can I leave this plugin inactive on the site and reactivate to check intermittently? I have several plugins and trying to keep the active plugins down.

Thank you,
Christina

Very good question Christina!
I wonder exact the same thing, if we can deactivate the plugin after the check and activate it only when we do the check?

:-) Pernilla

Yes you can deactivate the Broken Link Checker until you need it again.

Sad, 45 warnings and 12 redirects.
Worst, most of them are Amazon links.

Great! had 2 broken links...one was to a site no longer good anymore and the other I had to edit the URl in it....all done and fixed!

Soo easy!

Thanks Bo!

Nevermind! I rechecked again and for some reason the second time it showed 5 broken links after I fixed the other 2. All 5 broken links show 404 errors! Now I am going to go research how to fix 404 (not found) errors. Uggh!
