So whether you're a premium member here or on the starter membership package, you get to create free websites here within Wealthy Affiliate. These are SiteRubix websites and you'll see they have .siterubix.com on the end.

These are called sub-domains. Sub-domains are like an extension to an existing site which you can see in the site name, in this case the site is .siterubix.com. These are still full websites, but are just an extension on another.

If you want to create one of these just head over to "Build Websites" under the Premium Services menu and where it says create a website just click on the "On A Free Domain" button. Follow the step by step guide to set up the site and at the end you'll have the login details to get access to the site.

Here are some pros and cons to creating free websites like the ones you can get here.

Pros:

  • Zero Costs - You can create a website without the costs of a domain name. Now you really can start Internet Marketing for free here at WA. Free membership and a free website.
  • Easy To Set Up - Thanks to the WordPress Express tool here at Wealthy Affiliate you can create a website in minutes. This feature is also available for your own domains too.
  • Great for Testing a New Niche - You can create these free sites as a tester to see if the niche is worth investing your time in. You will save yourself on the $10-12/year fee of registering a domain on a niche that might end up not being something you want to work in.
  • Great for Testing New Themes and Plugins - You can use these sites to test new themes and plugins without breaking your actual site. Better to break a tester site that your actual one! This is your opportunity to make mistakes!

Cons:

  • Limited Features - You don't have full access to everything in the back end. Here with SiteRubix sites you don't have access to the FTP (File Transfer Protocol - The way you can transfer files from your computer to your websites). These isn't always a necessary function you'll need to use, but you might eventually need it.
  • No Email Addresses - You don't gain access to your own domain name email addresses with siterubix sites. You can still use free email services like Gmail and Hotmail.
  • You Don't Own The Domain Name - The siterubix domain names you create are owned by Wealthy Affiliate. You are in control of the content still, but you don't own the URL. If the site becomes popular and you decide you'd like to sell it, you can't.
  • Can't Open Support Tickets - If you encounter an issue with your siterubix sites, the support tickets are not available to you. You'll have to sort out any issues yourself or see if anyone else knows a solution to your problem.
  • Ineligible for Google Adsense - You cannot register sub-domains with Google to sign up for their Adsense program. So siterubix websites here at Wealthy affiliate wouldn't be eligible for the Adsense program either.
Free websites come in handy for certain things and they're great if you want to do Internet Marketing with zero costs.

Next, Your own domains!

No your not screwed but certainly dont put a lot of work into it. Use it as a testing site or just let it expire

No you're not screwed. Like David has said, it can be used for testing purposes. But it's probably worth letting it expire in my opinion.

Thanks Jorge. One thing I will add later is that soon there will be a feature where you can transfer your siterubix site across to your own domain. Kyle or Carson will let us know when that feature becomes available.
