You read it in every single how to article or how-to direction you get,

and yet we do not believe them---

They tell you again and again:

  • DO NOT TYPE IN YOUR URL ADDRESSES-- you will make a mistake
  • and yet-- we still feel that is for the other people !
  • and yet we still type them
  • and yet you find out later there is a problem--- sigh sigh sigh

The ONLY way to BE SURE your links are correct

Copy and Paste from the actual Internet page (your computer creates the address, not you!)

What I did at first once I realized I made errors when typing this stuff myself, was I opened up all the pages I wanted to link to with the tabs my browser has for multiple pages---and I kept going back and forth to the pages, hilite the URL address as listed in the address bar at the top and paste the link, back and forth....

SURE FIRE WAY that I NOW use:

  1. Download free Post-it Software and create a Post-it Note for each topic you have a link for.
  2. Open up page at a time, the sites
  3. Hilite and copy the address directly from the URL box at the top of your page
  4. Paste it onto the Post-it.
  5. Click on the link to make sure it works.
  6. When you need the accurate address, go o the handy Post-it and copy the link and paste where needed.

I am pretty sure the same system can be used with a Notepad or Notebook document as well, but I really don't know how to use them yet. I think it is the same principle.

You do not want to use a Word document because the quotation marks style in Word do not match the style needed in links I know, go figure, but that is the way it is.

From this point on whenever you create a new site, blog entry, Squidoo lens or need an affiliate code--- before you close it down copy the URL address and put it on the appropriate Post-it right on your desktop!

I have one post it that is all affiliate codes, one all Squidoo lenses, one for each blog and the blog entries, one for each website and their sub pages on the website and one for my WA tutorials!

Two downfalls:

  1. You have to be careful when you go to copy the url code and put your cursor one or two spaces before the address or it will open up the page!
  2. For the life of me I do not get when an URL address needs the / at the end of it and when it does not. so check the link once on the post it if it does not work either add or delete the / that is found at the end of the URL address

next page we attack the dreaded html codes
