I like to keep things simple. People understand the simple things, so here is my list of writing tips to help those that are new to writing or are in need of writing tips.

  1. Proof read your stuff. As simple as this is to do, many forget to do it. A helpful way to do it: finalize the page/post, leave it for a while, when you come back to it, read it again to see if it makes sense.
  2. Read it out loud. I can't tell you how helpful this can be when writing articles, stories, anything. What happens is when you are writing it, chances are that you are mentally telling yourself what you want to type. Sometimes your hands don't listen! Finish your article and save it, then, read it out loud. Do not read it mentally! Read the article word for word out loud.
  3. Get a grammar checker. It drives me crazy when folks do not utilize free services and programs available. Grammarly.com offers an add-on for your browser that offers a spell-checker/grammar checker which follows you around the web. How this will help you is it offers you a free service that helps you not sound like a crazy person. Especially in the comments section of FB, Twitter, G+, all the big ones.
  4. Get a friend to help. Find a friend that doesn't mind proofreading your material and offering feedback. Or better yet, in the WA community, you can offer your page/post/website for feedback. You can get points for offering feedback on others sites and then you can offer your site for feedback.
  5. Learn from others. It never hurts to look at others sites for advice and ideas on how to format and organize your website. There are people from every walk of life creating websites and blogs out there. Get to reading!

Thanks for creating this training Zavier! I really appreciate it. I am not really good at my grammar and I rely on words software to help me. Your recommendation of grammarly.com will help me a lot. I would not need to cut, paste and check every time now.

While the program isn't 100% all the time, it does help a lot. Plus, its free.
