3. Use a Lighweight, Flexible Theme.

Another way which you can improve on your site page speed is making use of a good WordPress theme. This is one area that is greatly overlooked by site owners, most site owners don’t make the right changes to their WordPress feature, and that has its own consequence. It is best you choose a theme that load fast and quickly. In this regards you can select a theme that is flexible with few features, this has a great tendency of loading fast without much hassle, there are a lot of Wordpress theme collections you can choose from. But it is highly important you choose a theme that has modern features and design as well.

4. Use Plugins Wisely.

One of the things that website experts always put in place for a good site page speed optimization is the use of good plugins, if you search well through your Wordpress features you will surely come across the right plugins that can perform the needed task properly. All the plugins added to a website comes with its own properties, so you should find time to check through your website at intervals to remove all plugins that are not needed. Also check for the presence of conflicting plugins so as to resolve it. You can also run a troubleshooting test on your site using the Wordpress plugin to check any plugin related issue.

Great post, Charles.

I find GeneratePress theme to be very fast. I try to keep my plugins at an absolute minimum. The only point I have not addressed in your post is database maintenance and cleaning.
Are most people doing that regularly and what are you using. WP optimize is getting very mixed reviews.

One thing I do which helps my speed and end-user satisfaction is use an adaptive image service. I use the ShortPixel Adaptive Images WP Plugin. It changes the size and resolution of your images so they can be optimally displayed on any device (iPhone, tablet, destop monitor, etc.) I have tested it on all the commonly used devices at home and at work.
Everything always loads quickly (they have their own CDN) and looks great. is very reasonable priced. I use the Kraken Image optimize, which is set to automatically optimize image size ("Krackem All") before they are sent to ShortPixel. I do this to make the whole process even faster and because ShortPixel won't charge for images optimized by less than 5%, so you can get a lot of freebies. They will also lazy-load images for you so you can get rid of your lazy-load plugin.
I bought 10,000 image optimizations for 10 dollars and it will probably take me over a year to use that up. They also give you 100 free images a month. Thier product support is outstanding. If anyone wants the URL for a ShortPixel coupon then just send me a PM. I sound like a ShortPixel salesman so maybe I should join their affiliate program :-)

The other thing I do is use a lazy-load for video plugin, which can speed up your site tremendously if you embed a lot of videos. The lazy-load creates a thumbnail from the first frame of the video that users can click on, which then quickly loads and plays the actual video. I just posted an article to my site that had 2 videos and it had an average Google PageSpeed of 95 -97.
