1. Optimize your WordPress Database.

This is another way of ensuring a fast site load page, there is a database on Wordpress that help to store all the website data in the background. This database is responsible for storing all website posts, comments, questions, reminders and events happenings on the site. So when you have a visitor on your site, all they do is to recover this data from the database they are been stored to check a content, page or post. Any activity carried out by the visitor such as comments, reviews, order, purchase and so on also makes up the data to be stored on the database. So you need to make sure that your database has only necessary information because the bigger the size of your database the longer it will take to execute tasks and also process queries, so I will suggest that you clear your database of all unwanted entries and part your database into more than a single location. To remove all these unwanted files you can make use of the Wordpress optimize plugin. If your database is cleared of all unnecessary files and trash, then your site load page speed will improve tremendously.

2. Select a Fast Web Host.

The moment you get a new visitor on any page on your website, the web browser will send a notification that will display the page. It will surely take time for the server to respond, the time taken to send a response depends on how long they need to wait. It doesn’t matter how good or efficient your website is, it is mainly judged on how fast your server can respond to a visitor comment.

So before settling down to select a host for your website, you should choose a good host that aligns with your preference. So instead of settling for a host that will offer a slow performance and make you lose audience, you can up your budget and go for a WordPress hosting that will be fast.

Great post, Charles.

I find GeneratePress theme to be very fast. I try to keep my plugins at an absolute minimum. The only point I have not addressed in your post is database maintenance and cleaning.
Are most people doing that regularly and what are you using. WP optimize is getting very mixed reviews.

One thing I do which helps my speed and end-user satisfaction is use an adaptive image service. I use the ShortPixel Adaptive Images WP Plugin. It changes the size and resolution of your images so they can be optimally displayed on any device (iPhone, tablet, destop monitor, etc.) I have tested it on all the commonly used devices at home and at work.
Everything always loads quickly (they have their own CDN) and looks great. is very reasonable priced. I use the Kraken Image optimize, which is set to automatically optimize image size ("Krackem All") before they are sent to ShortPixel. I do this to make the whole process even faster and because ShortPixel won't charge for images optimized by less than 5%, so you can get a lot of freebies. They will also lazy-load images for you so you can get rid of your lazy-load plugin.
I bought 10,000 image optimizations for 10 dollars and it will probably take me over a year to use that up. They also give you 100 free images a month. Thier product support is outstanding. If anyone wants the URL for a ShortPixel coupon then just send me a PM. I sound like a ShortPixel salesman so maybe I should join their affiliate program :-)

The other thing I do is use a lazy-load for video plugin, which can speed up your site tremendously if you embed a lot of videos. The lazy-load creates a thumbnail from the first frame of the video that users can click on, which then quickly loads and plays the actual video. I just posted an article to my site that had 2 videos and it had an average Google PageSpeed of 95 -97.
