When building a Website in Wordpress

The ability to add links to your content, text, images to direct your users to external website pages or pages within your website is an important task to master.
It is also great to be able to allow your visitors to download documents or other media content from your site.
Usually, a link is shown with a different color scheme or maybe it will be underlined that really depend on which theme you are using and how the CSS code is set up, of course, it is possible to alter the CSS code and get a different look at your links, but that will be a task for another tutorial I think. Let's focus on how to add the different HTML Links.
Follow this tutorial and you will master this part of web design in no time.

First of All, let's look at some of the most common link tasks that we need to execute.

  • Adding HTML link to the text.
  • Editing an HTML link.
  • Delete an HTML link.
  • Adding a link to media files.
Adding HTML link to the text.

To create a HTML link in your text and direct your user to another page or post within your website or to another external website is very easy, this is how you do it. Highlight the text that you want to turn into a link and click the anchor chain in your texteditor in the top of your content, then a inline link toolbar will appear and this is where you enter the URL, you want your text to link to, if you forget http:// in your URL it will be added by wordpress. Okey, so when you have entered the URL click the apply button or hit your enter key on your keyboard. And that is really all you have to do, now you have a link in your text, that takes your visitor to wherever you wanted him to go.

If you don't highlight any text and still click the anchor chain, Wordpress will use your URL that you enter as your link text as this one : http://insidemarketingwebsite.com/

or you can simply click the anchor chain to open up the inline link toolbar, and start typing the name of one of your posts or pages, a dropdown list will then appear and you can choose from the list of your posts / pages to insert the link to point to them. Like this :

Congratulation, on adding those links that's it, plain and simple, now that you know how to add the links you might want to edit them as well ? Stay with me and head over to the next page where I will be editing those HTML links.

Thanks for the info, but I have a question.
Whenever I try to copy & paste a product HTML into my post, it changes my original text to the text of the product. How do I change it back?
If I try to delete the new text and retype the old, the link disappears.
Thanks,
CJ Dodaro

Thanks for the info. I was always wondering if it was possible to just click on a photo and be transported to the page I want people to go.
