An Update to "When Life Happens"
When Life Happens – Update
As some of you may know I posted about my sister having to have her legs amputated. I wanted to give an update on the situation because everyone has been so kind in wishing her well.
My sister was released from the hospital Friday, and I’m thinking I would stay with her and help with anything she needed. Well, first off when we get to her apartment, I was rendered useless because her neighbors came out and took everything from me, and the car and helped her into the apartment (she’s in an electric wheelchair) and then they left. She received such a warm welcome and people were truly glad to see her. After getting her settled in and spending time with her she politely told our brother and myself that we had to leave because her very shy cat would not come out if we were there. We reluctantly left but she is doing great. When I checked up on her over this weekend she is so busy zipping around doing things around the house. Yesterday, she even was outside washing her car, in her wheelchair, with the help of neighborhood kids.
I’m writing this because I realize it all comes down to how you look at things. Her attitude is so positive, and she doesn’t see this experience as a tragedy. She says ok she doesn’t have her legs, but she has her life and for her she feels she has come out the winner.
My sister’s story could be very different if her attitude was different than what it is. I know everyone handles things differently but sometimes I think we just must make a conscious decision in how we look at things. So, when I become overwhelmed or discouraged I intend on remembering it’s all how I look at things. Maybe this will help someone too.
Take care,
Toni

That's great news Toni. I think when something like that happens you seem to draw strength from a place unknown to most. Your sister clearly ranks being alive above loosing her legs. What a fantastic attitude and an inspiration.

Hi Toni, maybe she is keeping extra busy to keep certain thoughts out of her mind. I am really overwhelmed by the love that surrounds your sister. It is beautiful.
I understand what you're saying. I just know she is just so determined to be as independent as she was before. Thank you for your kind words.

Yes....attitude is everything. We all have challenges...some more visible than others. Continued blessings to your sister. Very inspiring story.
