Living as a wannabe digital nomad
Every year I travel from Europe to Sydney and back again 4 times, I'm off again on Friday. I'm very proud to have made it this far on my quest for freedom.
I absolutely love it, and deep down I kinda wish I could be a digital nomad. But my backpacker days are over, I've got a farm, a beautiful Norwegian wife and a 4 year old that is my whole world. I also miss my dog too much if I stay down under for too long.
I know a lot of people are trying to find the freedom that comes from working online full-time, but funnily enough it wasn't until I was forced to structure my life around a family that I found significantly increased energy and effectiveness that helped me find the freedom I was looking for.
Remember, it is one thing to make money online full-time, it is a totally different thing to be the person you need to be to work hard whilst travelling the world. Become a successful person, and success will find you.
Here is a little list of how I stay super-productive when I'm on the road catching up with family and friends in Sydney:
- Never try to work in transit. Enjoy podcasts, sip a beer on the plane, relax, sleep.
- Get up at 4am no matter what, run down to the beach, have a swim. Stick to the schedule that has made me successful.
- Commit to my key business goals, most importantly, 3 x 2000+ word blog posts a week. Do not ever let that slip. 3 posts a week for 2 years and you have a very large website. If you aren't online full-time in 2 years you either aren't working hard enough, or you need to learn more.
- Have fun, but stay healthy. No getting drunk, no fast food.
- Commit to mastery: Courage, Truth, Honour, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Industriousness, Self Reliance, Perseverance.
The Norwegians worshipped the right things, I'm proud to be living in the land of the Vikings. Live a virtuous life in today's society and you will go far.
All the best on your journey ahead,
Tommy.
