Let's avoid junk comments in Site Comments, please!

I hope that this opinion does not seem very rude, it is not meant to offend anyone. The only purpose of this is that we use the resources of this platform in the best way possible and most useful for all.

Sometimes when requesting comments for my website through SiteComments, I get something like this:

"Hi, I have no idea about this topic, I had never read anything about it, and therefore I could not give you an opinion, I suppose you mean [... fill in the blank ...] but I'm not sure, but I think you're doing a great job "

What? Seriously?

What is the purpose of a "contribution" of this kind, if it can be called that? Get points to be able to request a comment on your posts? Or according to the new system, try to get points in cash?

If who contributes in this way is a beginner, it is something that can be understood, but we must educate the new ones in the sense that we do not participate superficially as in a social network but to build sites with valuable content where we all benefit. Including, of course, the people to whom our publications are addressed.

On the other hand, if someone who contributes to such low quality is a person with some experience, I would like to call them to reconsider their actions. Acing in such way cause that the person who initially requested the comment has to reject it and his turn passes at the end of the queue, wasting valuable opportunity and time.

Why comment if you cannot add to the original article.

Derek

Right!

I think you should take some time to read the article to find out about it, then give an honest opinion. Even if you don't know anything about it, from reading you will find an answer.
Thanks for sharing.

I agree, thanks!

Hey Tommy,

Wow, that's a terrible comment. Best to disapprove comments like that. It's frustrating. The reader should actually take the time to read it when they are participating in Site Comments.

Monica

Thanks Monica!

When a comment doesn´t say anything about the article I wrote, I disapprove it. There is a guide right there to tell people what's expected. When they refuse to read it, that's their problem

"Hi, I have no idea about this topic, I had never read anything about it, and therefore I could not give you an opinion, I suppose you mean [... fill in the blank ...] but I'm not sure, but I think you're doing a great job "

Your right and it’s just as bad when someone writes two sentences. And you can tell they’ve not read it.
And yes, I don’t have to accept it. But, it would be nice if they had the curtesy to at least read it if the expect the same from me.
I always read every word. Of someone else’s that why I accepted it.
Blessings
Scarlett

I agree, they should take the time to read the article, not just chasing the credits...

Totally agree with you Scarlett, thanks!

Thank you Tommy for this reminder but I see another positive things in having comments approved and eliciting a continuing discussion on the topic.

Thanks!

Those comments are not worth it. Some people are really trying to game the system and that is a great example of such person.

Whether it was a mistake or a way of gaming the system, it won't work for them either way if you reject the comment.

As to the teaching of these people, I noticed that you cannot retrieve which member actually tried to do the commenting, as it uses the gravatar system and emailaddresses. At times people have the same name there as here on WA, but most of the time I don't know who actually did the comment in the first place.

I wish for that WA platform fixes that aspect. I am quite sure that the user is logged onto the WA platform while making a comment, so it should be no problem to also attach the WA username to the comment on the SiteComments side of the system. That way we can actually approach the person personally through the WA DM system and try to show them what they did wrong.

At least we can leave him the reason why we rejected the comment. I hope smart people understand the first time.

oh we can now, that's good. :)

It's happened and it will happen again despite there were tens of posts about commenting via site-comment. We need to continuously educate our members to become a better 'commentor'.
Thanks for bringing this up.

:)Joe

Thank you!

You do not need to accept the comment if you do not feel it is right or appropriate. if the person keeps getting rejected from comments, they are actually stopped from giving out new comments (not sure about the time frames).
But I agree, sometimes people comment with feedback rather than what is supposed to be an organic comments. But the only way they will understand is if people do reject the comment.
It is your website, so if the comment is not relevant - reject it.
this way they will hopefully understand what the platform is about
Regards
John

I agree, thanks!
